My phone kept buzzing for the rest if the day but I ignored it knowing that it was Meghan and Braxton trying to talk to me. I sat and stared out my window for most of the afternoon thinking about everything that had happened. As I was watching out the window I saw the boy that had stared at me earlier walk into the house next to me. I'm gonna go over there and talk to him. I thought. When my parents got home I jumped down the stairs and told them that I was going to meet the neighbors. They agreed with me and cane along to welcome them as well. My mom rang the door bell and a tall woman with light brown hair answered the door. "Hi, we live just next door and we wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood." My dad said kindly. "We were just about to eat dinner, would you like to come eat with us?" She invited us into the house. It was nicely decorated with matching furniture. We sat down at the table and waited for the food to be put down. The woman called a name up the stairs. "Reed, come meet the neighbors." Reed cane slowly down the stairs. He had his mom's hair. It was shirt and curly. He wasn't short but wasn't tall he was about my hight. He caught my glance and we stared at each other. "Why don't you take this girl upstairs and show her your room, Reed." He agreed and lead me up the stairs and into his room. It had He same layout as mine. The desk on the opposite wall then the bed and a bookshelf next to it. "I saw you earlier." Reed commented abruptly. I blushed. "You did?" I mumbled. "Yeah you were crying sitting at the base of that old tree." He stood looking out the window. "What happened." It took me a while to get the words out
What if he doesn't believe me?
What if He's the one boy?
What if... what if...
I answered.
"My friends don't think I can find the one boy who knows what love is." I looked at him trying to see his reaction.
His face remained calm.
"Why do you think they don't believe you?"
"I don't know. I think they just don't understand it because they don't know what it is." He nodded his head in understanding.
The conversation carried on and it eventually got to him asking about Braxton.
"He's one of my friends. I don't take what he does as weird because I know it's in a platonic way." His mom called us down for dinner. I followed him to the kitchen. My parents were sitting at the table and laughing with his dad.
Reed and I sat down beside each other.
His mom had made roast beef with vegetables and potatoes.
It was delicious. After we had finished eating Reed cleared the table and started on the dishes. Our parents went into the loving room to talk. I came over to the sink to help Reed with the dishes. "What school do you go too?" He asked me.
"Oh uh I go to present middle."
"That's where I'm going?"
"Oh really what grade are you in?"
"I'm in grade 9."
"Me to."
I dryed the dishes and pu them away.
I said goodbye and told my parents that I was going to head home to hang out with Ellie, my sister.
