Nathan Reed was an average 8 year old boy. He was immature in all maters and always kept 12 feet between him to the closest girl. He was the "cool guy" of the group. Most likely to skip class. Start fights. A boy too cool to have his Mommy make his lunch.

His father left him & his mother when Nathan was 4 years old. There was no cause, no reason. No fights. No drinking. No gambling. No beating. Nothing, he just, left.

Sunday morning, grim face set. Bag at the door. A last look at his son. No expression; anywhere. The door opened. Then he's gone.

Despite growing up without a father, Nathan was as boy as a boy could be. He frequently hung out with all of his classmates (all male of course). Which lead to conversations of skateboards, lame teachers and gory video games.

Today was one of those days with one small difference. Gill Aborn was getting increasingly bored of their meetings. Today, he was going to give someone the hardest dare he could think of and stir SOME excitement up.

That someone, was Nathan and the dare was indeed hard to complete. Not to mention completely dangerous. Just the thing Gill needed to spice this ordinary day up!

The boys jumped to attention and unanimously glared at Gill's sudden claps.

"Okay!"Gill called. "One of you is getting a challenge! It's gonna make you wet yourself!"

The other boys annoyed but curious waited for Gill to announce the next date victim. Last time Drew had run across a yard with known vicious dogs and nearly ended up dog food. Carson & Duncan were suspended for a week after hailing egg yolk filled water balloons down as the teacher's committee left and none of the boys wanted to stop now. To them this was like an initiation right. Fail and the whole school gets to know. The teasing enough pushes the boys to complete the eccentric dates along with the promise of fame. Complete the dare and be looked up to and revered for years! Children whisper in the hallways as you pass and your name is known school-wide! Why wouldn't you do the dare?

Heads turn, voices "Oooohhhh" and jealously flares as Gill announces, " Nathan." With a world-class smirk.

Nathan glances up from the crude caricature drawing of his teacher, Mr. Evergreen. Although with horns out of his head, thick daunting eyebrows and sharp fangs, he looked more like a cryptid from your nightmares.

Nathan met Gill's eyes. Ignoring the oohing and "aahing" around him, he put on a smirk of his own. "Bring it, Loser" Nathan exclaims, "I can do anything. Any damn dare you wish, princess!"

The whole room holds their breath. Bully against self-proclaimed Bad Boy. This is going to be the most interesting day of the month!

"Alright, poser." Again with the name calling Gill sneers. "You're going to..." Gill stops to think.

"He thinks he's all that! He doesn't even know the dare yet!" One other boy calls out. Snickering is heard about the room.

"Okay!" Gill calls, quieting them down. "I have something. Nathan. I DARE YOU TO.... DRUM ROLL PLEASE!" The boys comply. "STAY IN THE ABANDONED HOSPITAL AND SPEND THE NIGHT!"

...

The drum rolling stops. Mouths fall to the floor. Nathan himself sits there, eyes wide. Realizing he's losing his cred, shuts it and replies, "FINE! I'll do it!"

.......

The next day a warm peaceful Saturday greets the children as they cower at the site of the hospital.

Nathan looks around. Looks back at his friends and grabs the door handle. With a silent prayer and a great noise from the handle; he walks in.

Okay so I've never written a story before. Essays and paragraphs, yes. But never stories. So this is my first one pleases be kind and know that I might not be able to be consistent with updating.... :(

Also if I made any grammar mistakes it something doesn't look right just feel free to write me. I have no problem going back in and editing it again.

Hopefully though my faithful friend, (you know who you are) will push me to write more! With her WRITE WRITE WRITE!

She is pushy. Jk. Thanks girl. Without that push I wouldn't have even written the first chapter! :)

So obviously this is dedicated to you :)
