Years ago, back when Shota was still in high school, he lost one of his closest friends. He became depressed and neglectful of the people around him, putting whatever time he had aside from crying into hero work.
If it wasn't for Hizashi and his family, Shota might've stayed that way.But Toru has no one. No family or friends to comfort her and help her back on her feet.
And the man watching over her doesn't know what to do."Listen Shota! Remember when you were like that? What helped you when you were down in mournin' town yo!?"
Shota isn't proud to say this.
But when he's stuck on a problem, he goes to Hizashi.Shota sighs, "Staying in bed all day."
"No way! If you let the little listener do that she'll never get better yo!"
Hizashi doesn't know about Toru's case, at least not all the gory bits.
Shota peeks his head into the hallway, Toru's door is closed, but he can still hear her crying."Hey dude, you have to go to the station today to get some files anyway. Why don't you take little listener with you?" Hizashi's tone is completely different, can he hear the crying too?
The files.
Shota shakes his head, "I can't have her around civilians, not unless she's in quirk suppressing cuffs or an officer of the law is present."
Hizashi raises his eyebrows eyes wide, "HUH!?" His voice rang through the phone and nearly shattered one of Shota's flower vases.
"Whatcha mean quirk suppressing cuffs!? And an officer present!? What? Is she some kind of criminal?"
In hopes of stopping Toru from hearing their conversation, Shota lowered the volume, which doesn't help much since Hizashi just yells louder.
"Until proven innocent, she is."
"Wait. You have to go to the station yo, the police station."
•
Toru had been tricked into leaving the bed, or well, it's her bed now.
"I'lL tAkE YoU TO thE hOUsE iF YoU lEAVe YoUR bEd" Shota had said. "I'Ll GeT YOu MisO SoUP If YuO GeT ouT oF THe HOUse." He had said.
Maybe if he wasn't a LIER, Toru would be in a slightly better mood."You...You said we would get ramen," Toru grumbled as Shota parked his car. "T-this isn't m-miso. Not even close."
Wincing, Toru looks back at the sign in front of the parking lot, written in bold:"Musutafu Police Station."
"Why would you bring me h-here?"
Toru is scared. Why would he bring her to the police? Would he have her locked up?Shota's eyes widened, "Oh. No, no it's not what you think. I have to get some papers." He said quickly, picking at his cuticles. "I just thought I'd bring you out... to get fresh air."
Toru leaned back in her seat, almost relaxing.
" Don't trust anyone. The only person that can help you is yourself."
Toru flinched when the words popped in her head, sitting back up straight.
She would've been glad that memories were showing up if it weren't something like that.Shota hadn't noticed her sudden unease. Too distracted by the idea he could be breaking a few laws at the moment.
It's not like he hasn't broken a law before, I mean he's an underground hero—and was once a teenager—but if he had to do something illegal he would always be the one to face the consequences. But in this case, Toru would be the one getting in the most trouble. Murderer and all.But it would be fine. fine-fine-fine-fine-fine.
Shota unbuckled his seatbelt and reached out for the door, "Do you think w-we could wait a bit?" Toru asked quickly, startling Shota.
"Yeah, sure."The silence was deafening. Shota, being to nervous to say anything, and Toru too scared that if she spoke any more she'd cry, leading to her cursing herself out for being a baby.
Shota had opened his mouth to say something multiple times, no sound coming out of it each time.
To escape the awkward silence Toru opened the passenger's door and lazily stumbled out of the car and sitting on the curb.
"U-um, o-kay." Shota commented before stepping out of his car and walking around it to—bear with me—stand awkwardly in front of Toru."I don't really have all day..." He lied. He had all day, no students to teach and or yell at, no homework to grade—that he knows of—, no having to take naps in his sleeping bag, he's got his couch for that now that he's at home.
"R-right! Sorry, I'm- sorry." She pipped getting back on her feet and turning to the station. She took a deep breath and started walking to the front doors, Shota pursued behind her.
•
Opening those doors had been the worst decision Toru had made today. Other than believing Shota that he would take her for ramen.
As soon as she stepped foot into the police station she was staring down the barrel of a gun.Apparently she'd been on a "Shoot on site" list.
Shota did manage to compromise with the officers, and Toru was instead forced into quirk suppressing cuffs, and put into a cell where everyone in the station could see her.
"This sucks." Toru announced as she gave up on trying to pick the lock with a hair clip she found in the sweater she's wearing.
Shota had run off with some detective in a hurry about some private files belonging to a case called "The death of Yuui." and she was left for the vultures. She'd tried using her quirk to break the bars, forgetting about the cuffs every ten minutes and trying again.
The pigs on the other side, sitting in there dumb wheely chairs finding it funny how her memory seemed to reset. No one was in the cell with her, which gave her plenty of space to do whatever dumb shit she wanted to. Though the idea of pacing around the cell and mocking everyone that walked by was tempting, Toru still decided that the far back corner would be her spot.
The thought of everyone laughing at her just made her want to crawl into a ball and die.
"How can they laugh at you? Don't they know who you are?"
The all too familiar gravely voice sounded in her head again, distracting her from her ridiculed mood.
"Who are you?"
She thought, sitting up straight on the rough floor.
"You'll know, soon. They don't know your power, what you can do. Don't let them distort your confidence my dear."
"T-thanks... I guess."
She thought again, this time the voice didn't reply. Her mind only left with silence.
She sighed, "What's happening to me..?" She mumbled.•
"Are you sure her name is Shigaraki?" Detective Tsukaushi questioned, hands shaking slightly as Shota responded with a "I'm a hundred percent sure." his quirk responding it as a truth.
"You know because of this it makes things more complicated, right?" He asked holding out the file with shaky hands.
Shota took the file from him and flipped through it, eyes widening as he continued to read the information in it."Pardon my language, but, holy fucking fuck. Would this make her..." Shota wondered, mind racing on all the possibilities of what actually happened a week ago.
The detective nodded his head, "Yes....yes it would."

Okay. Longer chapter than the other ones, I think I'll keep them this length or longer.
I'm excited to be re-writing this and fixing it so it's less rushed and all over the place.
