Nightmare
Charlotte hates horses.
More than anything. Charlotte hated horses more than she hated the tomcat in her house. Charlotte hating horses was very ironic, since the horse stables on her family's farm was almost right outside of her window. She could see them from her window, but they were too far for her to notice the trotting and neighing unless the night and house was completely quiet. Every night Charlotte would look out and think how much she hated those horses and prayed they would just disappear in the middle of the night.
She had a valid reason to hate the horses. When she was younger, she got on a horse and it immediately bucked her off and she landed face first in the horse pen. The impact broke her nose and she had to get a nose job. Charlotte loved to sing. However, since the nose job, it altered her voice so now she can barely speak clearly. Her speaking skills aren't terrible, but she speaks with a clear, but still muffled voice. She was in the choir at church and sang soprano since she had such a high voice. The church thought she was such a skilled singer for her young age, they let her sing a song all by herself in front of the church.
The wind hissed in Charlotte's left ear. It was a dark, cool, night in her family's farmhouse. Something would happen that night that would change her life forever, she just didn't know it yet. She laid in her four-poster bed, looking up at the ceiling and pulled her pink, floral, patterned quilt over her mouth and just stared. She glanced at the grandfather clock in her room to the side of her dresser. 10:24, it read. She tried to fall asleep but the curtains were distracting her with the wind blowing through the open window. The window was too high for Charlotte to reach and close, but she didn't mind the cool breeze blowing against her face on that humid night.
Charlotte was an olive-darker girl with almond shaped blue-green eyes. She has ringlet, springy curls in the color of light brown. She has a button nose and full, pinky lips. Her cheeks have a natural blush and and a few freckles. Charlotte is a biracial girl, which is why her skin is so tanned. Charlotte's favorite feature of herself is her springy curly, hair. So once it starts falling out from the chemotherapy, she will be devastated.
Her mother and father checked in on her all time. This night was one of those nights when her mother knew something was wrong as Charlotte was up so late.
"Charlotte." her mother and father said in unison as they opened the door to her bedroom.
"Yes mom." replied Charlotte.
"Why are you up so late, darling."
"Just thinking mother."
"About what darling?" asked her father.
"Existence."
"Darling you really should be getting to bed, you need your rest to heal up from you chemotherapy." replied her mother.
"I know mom, it's just I'm tired from all those restless nights, worrying I might die in my sleep."
"Try to get some rest honey."
"Alright." Charlotte replied and ended the conversation.
Outside of her bedroom door she heard her parents talking about her.
"I'm worried about her, darling." said her mother in a muffled tone.
"I am too. We just need to think on the bright side of things and keep praying for her every night before we slumber." replied her father.
"I don't think she is going to make it through the night."
"Oh, don't say things like that."
"You know it's true, darling."
"I wonder sometimes if she even knows how much we love her."
"We do love her to death, though."She lay there for a while and waited for a miracle. She heard the horses that she hated out in the stables, neighing and trotting around. Her pet tomcat walked in the room and pushed the door open. Charlotte was too tired to get up and rush the cat out of her room so she could get some sleep. But eventually after the cat pawing her face, she took the broom in the corner of her room and swept the cat out and shut the door quietly so her parents wouldn't hear. She then lay in her four-poster bed again and shut the curtains on all sides, so she was incased in a dark fort, with the soft whisper of the wind outside her window.
