Hello, Wayward Stranger
"Before he moved to the inner city, he always believed that security complexes were psychological. Secure walls guarded by only the most physically fit of the population; giving the impression of safety rather than a tyrannical rule pushed forth by the Northwood government. What the population didn't know is that it isn't the unknown of the outside world that they should be worried about, but the darkness that lurks within."
Perhaps I should reference the wording to the previous fragment, "but what unknown is inside them."
No, that doesn't sound as good as before.
Maybe I simply need to fix the entire last sentence, "None of the people were aware that it wasn't the mystery of the outer territory that needed worry, but the grounds on the inside of which they were most familiar."
Very concise, poindexter.
The bells affixed to the door chime, pulling me from the flow I was encased in.
Sharp ringing, an unwanted sound, "Mister Pines..." an unwanted visitor.
"Come on, Cassandra, I'm working. I don't have time."
"You never have time for me, now."
It's not my job to make time for you, you're my secretary. Her long arms slither like snakes around my shoulders, giving her room to rest her head on mine. As her hands stop comfortably on my chest, I take one of their icy grips in my palm.
"You're matcha latte, monsieur."
God bless, caffeine is the only thing getting me through this manuscript. "Thanks." I shut her down. Dismissiveness has never been enough to quell her need to constantly annoy me, yet it never fails to be a tactic of mine to fend her off.
"What are you working on?" Oh, you know, just the novel that you've known about for months.
"I'm working on my job, Cass. Which reminds me, can you file this?" I pull a paper from my neatly compiled desk, "The publishers finally sent in the advance. I was going to give you this later but right now it seems like you need a little bit of motivation to do your job."
