My response to people mentioning diets when growing up was to point out that the key word in diet is DIE. But I was underweight so my words were often brushed off as a young girl overconfident in her own size.
As my age rose so did the numbers on the scale and the sizes on the clothes. Eventually "you're so small" turned into "maybe you should try working out before you get too big". At some point the responses to my weight changed from "don't you ever eat" to "your body would probably do better if you lost some weight.... It already struggled when you were small.."
My portions got smaller and fewer between causing me to wonder if I had been a hypocrite overconfident in her own size. Then I remember that the key word in diet is DIE.
