14 | 'Long silence'

Giana POV

"Mom I think they're a good fit for one another." I say cutting up some fruit for our mid day smoothies. Something we've done since I was little. "I know, they compliment each other well. The only thing I'm worried about is the age gap." I look at her annoyed, "Mom if the age was going to be a problem, it would have been one a long time ago."

She sighs as we sit down at the table with our drinks. "Honey your brother has been through a lot in his life. I just don't want him to mess up this amazing opportunity. Yennefer is a great girl, especially little Sage." I know mom, I know.

As I finish my smoothie, my phone rings and it's Yennefer. "Hey." I answer hearing small deep breaths on the other side. "Auntie something is wrong with mommy. She's sleep and we're in the bus from the cop show." Sage tells me and I immediately look at my mom. "We gotta go."

I tracked her phone through Find My Fiends, and she's in the emergency room. We walk in and I go straight to the desk. "Yennefer Nicole Astris." I tell her and she starts typing. Where did my mom go?

Looking around, I spot her sitting down next to a crying Sage. "Who are you to the patient?" She asks. They only give out information to family, good enough reason to lie. "Her sister." She nods and types a few more things. "She's currently getting her stomach pumped. She had high levels of Fentanyl in her system." What the hell? "She doesn't do drugs. I literally just saw her." I tell her and she only shrugs her shoulders.

I walk over to them and take a seat, "What happened?" My mom immediately asks and I just stare at her.

"They said she had high levels of Fentanyl in her system." She looks at me like I just told her she killed someone.

"She would never do that. Not to Sage." She puts Sage's head in her neck and continues looking at me. "Call dad, get some of his friends down at the police." It's not that I don't trust her, I just need to be one hundred percent sure.

Walking down the hall to her room, I look behind me to make sure they're following behind me. Camden and my dad came here about an hour ago. She was resting but they say she's up now. "Knock knock." I say and she shifts her gaze to us. Sage runs over to her but I walk slowly, talking in her appearance.

She has no bruises on her arms indicating that she isn't shooting up through them. She looks at me with tears in her eyes. "They're gonna take her. I swear I have never taken anything like that in my life. I would never do that. I'm all she has left." She tells me finally letting the tears flow.

I shake my head at her and walk closer, "They're not going to do that. You have to tell the whole truth when they ask you questions." She nods and hugs her tighter.

Camden POV

I'm in a boring meeting when I feel my phone vibrating. What is it now? I see it's Giana so I step out of the room. "What's up?" I ask waiting for her to respond but it takes a while until she speaks. "Cam it's Yen, she's in the hospital. It's not good."

I pull up to the skating rink and see my dads car out front.

"Dad!" I yell running in. He comes out of the office and takes off his glasses. "What's wrong?" He asks walking to me. "We need to get to the hospital it's Yennefer." I tell him and he goes back into the office. He comes back out with his coat and we leave.

On the drive here, dad called some of his police buddies to get them to search her apartment. We walk in and I go straight to the waiting room and see the three of them sitting on one of the couches. "How is she?" I ask sitting across from them. "We don't know."

She looks so broken, scared even. Sage is asleep on her chest but she hasn't let her go.

Someone knocks on the door and Sargent Voight walks in. "Hello I'm Sargent Voight. Ms. Astris I'm a friend of the Rome's. I've come to inform you that Phil asked me to do a sweep of your apartment. We found nothing, no residue, pill bottles, needles, nothing of the sort. Now CPS will be here soon, is there anyone you can leave your daughter with?" He asks her and with every word, another tear falls.

"Um Miss Kim, can you take her until this is all over?" Of course she says yes. "They will do individual meetings with everyone in this room. There will be a full investigation. I will supervise the entire thing. Checking everything from, lateness, doctor appointments, to bank statements. When everything is over and you're cleared, you can have your daughter back. Here's my card, call me anytime." He says and takes his leave.

The CPS people came and she gave Sage one more kiss and hug before she left with my parents. It's just me and her left. "How did this happen? I would never do anything to endanger her." She tells me breaking the long silence. "I don't know but we'll figure this out together." I tell her taking her hand in mine.
