today was the day. it was my first day at one of the most highly acclaimed schools in the entire world. hopes peak academy of talented students. every single student in there was the absolute best at their field of expertise. what was mine you ask? rhythm gaming. thats right. who knew that a simple hobby of mine that i took up as a way to pass the time would lead me to get accepted into a school like this? nobody could have expected it. but here i was anyways.
if im gonna be completely honest, i felt more nervous than i was excited. sure, i did have something i was the best at, but it still felt wrong to be in the same class with people such as the ultimate scientist and the ultimate artist. regardless, i decided to not mess around any longer. i took a deep breath, and made my first step into the school.
it was just as magnificent as i thought itd be. high ceiling, furniture with beautiful flower carvings on them, shiny floors that look like theyd just been cleaned. there was just one problem though - i was the only person there! worried, i checked my clock. 7:45, pretty normal time for a school ceremony to start. then i remembered.
"THE CEREMONY STARTS AT 8:45!!! how could i forget!!!"
i couldn't believe i was a whole hour early. still, it kind of surprised me that no one else was here. i figured a lot of people would be as excited - or nervous - as i was. i shrugged it off, and figured i could kill time by looking around the school for a bit. itd be a waste of time to go back home now.
as i was walking through the main hallway that lead to the dorms, i felt a sharp pain in my head, and my vision became blurry. "h-huh". before i could react, i fell to the floor and blacked out (rip)
[TIME SKIP]
i woke up on a cold hard desk in a yellow classroom that id never seen before. "h-hello.... is anyone here...." i asked, but with no answer. i slowly got up, my head still hurting. i looked around a bit, only to notice a camera looking right at me, and.... barricaded windows? then i realized. "holy shit this must be hopes peak this is so embarasing". i hurried out the room and tried to find my way to the main hall. "im definitely gonna be late!!!!! this is cringe!!!" i thought to myself.
after running around for about a minute, i found myself standing infront of a huge door, with red velvet covering it. "omg my favourite kpop group!!" i said and excitedly tried to open the door, but to no success. "god damnit" it was locked. "this cant be it" i groaned and continued looking for the main hall.
after approximately another minute of searching, i finally found a big door with a bunch of posters glued on to it. i was too tired to pay attention to any of them. "come on" i said "this has to be it". i pulled the handle of the door, and to my relief, it opened right away, only to reveal a huge hall with 15 other students in it. "YES!!!" i shouted. my scream may have been louder than i intended, because the entire room turned their heads to look at me. it was kind of an awkward moment, until someone decided to break the silence.
"hello there. you must be one of the other new students here. so is everyone else in this room, you needn't worry." a purple haired girl with a single blue strand in his hair approached me. he looked a little gay. "my name is kamishiro. rui kamishiro. and yours must be ruby, right?" he asked, with a weird insane grin on his face. "h-how do u know" i asked, creeped out. "the names of the entire class are on the school board. its right outside the room. im guessing youre not very into reading, are you ruby-kun? 🥀" this guy kept getting weirder and weirder.
thankfully, a blond haired guy with ombre pink haired approached us before i had to answer that weirdos question. "HAS ANYONE SEEN MT SISTER?? SHE WAS HERE WITH ME WHEN WE GOT IN BUT I LOST HER!!!! HER NAME IS SAKI SHE-" "woah there my friend" rui interrupted him "im sure your sister must be somewhere around here, she just has to find her way. plus, stress is bad for the skin" "please shut up i dont have time for this right now i need to find my sis-"
as they continued fighting, a few other people from the group approached us. it was two cute pink haired girls and a short haired one with black hair. "what on earth is going on here?" one of them asked. most of her long, pink hair was down, except two small clumps on each side that were tied into small pigtails with yellow ribbons. she was wearing a yellow top and a white skirt. "can you help us figure out our situation instead of pointlessly fighting eachother?" the black haired girl next to her said. she was dressed in black clothes and a fishnet, like she came straight out of a rock concert. but while she was definitely intimidating, she didnt come across as a bad or mean-spirited person. she scanned me with her eyes and went "i don't think we've been introduced before. im nana osaki, the ultimate rockstar" "oh... my names ruby. im the ultimate rhythm game player" i said nervously. "lmao what the fuck kind of talent is that" nana replied "WHATS WRONG WITH U" i yelled back at her. jesus christ.
suddenly, the door opened violently with a slam, and a blonde girl with ombre pink hair in pigtails ran inside "TSUKASA!!!!! THERE YOU ARE!!!" that one annoying loud guy from before ran up to her and hugged her "SAKI!!!! HERE YOU ARE FINALLY!!! WHAT HAPPENED" he let go of the embrace "i woke up alone in a classroom" his sister replied "i was really scared, but this weird black and white bear helped me find my way"
i could feel tsukasas confusion, but he seemed to have shrugged it off and continued talking with saki. "well now that youre here i suppose its time we get out of this ugly room" he said, and pulled the handle of the door. it was locked.
"WHAT??????" he yelled, his loud obnoxious voice echoing inside the mostly empty room. suddenly, everyone in the room had gathered around the door, until we heard a funny robotic voice come from the stage thing.
"HELLO STUDENTS OF HOPES PEAK ACADEMY! im here to announce the 53th killing game of the hit series Danganronpa. let me explain the rules: youre locked inside the school for the rest of eternity. if you want to get out, you have to kill someone without getting caught. simple as that." a black and white bear said through a huge microphone.... it looked exactly just like the one saki had described
"a killing game, huh?" someone from behind me said. i turned my head. it was yet another pink haired person (how many times do i have to type the words pink hair jfc), with a side ponytail, tied to the left side of their head with a red ribbon "that means i can finally get to kill rui!" they said carefully. "mizuki" rui replied "i dont think its time to be joking right now".
i was at a loss of words. there was no way they were actually going to make us kill eachother right? right...?
as i was lost in my thoughts, a shorter girl with green gray-ish hair approached me.
"h-hey" she said nervously. i jumped "o-oh. hello....?" "i overheard your conversation with that punk girl" she continues "youre the.... ultimate rhythm game player right? well im somewhat similar to you. im the ultimate gamer. my name is nene kusanagi by the way." "omg really???" i replied, a little shocked. "can u all perfect hell or hell on special difficulty for me?"
"what?" i wondered if it was really the time to be playing rhythm games rn. however, conversing with these idiots all day had tired me out, and i needed something to distract myself with. i reached out to grab my phone. "...!" my phone wasnt in the pocket anymore.
"oh, looks like you noticed!" a voice behind me said. "ahem!! i took all your phones away for obvious reasons! you wont be able to call for her no matter what!!! i replaced them with my handmade student handbooks! aren't they super cute?" it was that dumb bear again. "you can see your status, your measurements and also your dorms! speaking of, you should probably head to bed soon. its getting pretty late, and you dont wanna know what the punishment for staying outside late is!!!"
the bear disappeared again, and i could hear the doors unlocking. before i could get out of the room, that tsukasa guy got in the way. "ugh, what do you want now" an orange haired girl in a school uniform groaned. "you can all go to sleep now, but please make sure to return here by 9am next morning. i have a plan". i sighed and pushed him out the way. i was too tired to argue further, so i just agreed to do what he asked.
"room 8. ruby 8"
i used my student handbook to open the door to my dorm, to reveal a rather fancy and basic room. it only had a bed, an empty trash can, a camera and a second door that i assumed lead to the bathroom. i was too tired to look around further. i got in my bed and fell asleep immediately.
