!TW! - Death, Hospital (Needles etc.), Coma, LGBTQ+

There was a village not to far away from your local corner shop. Where people live in little mushrooms and trees, the type you would read about when you were a kid. There are little tables and chairs. Little kids flying kites and playing with bouncy balls. The two most important people in this story are two girls named Ameliy (Am-el-ie) and her best friend Ruth. And they were the atypical besties. Go everywhere together, call each others parents their own, having sleepovers multiple days a week. That Kinda thing. But this isn't a fairy tale in fact far from it. You see fairly tales end with a prince and princess falling in love, or a family being re-united, or two best friends escaping death. Ameliy and Ruth were playing around near a cliff, they were taking photos and looking at clouds. Ruth started running backwards and then Ameliy shouted "STOP!" and Ruth stops, she turns around sees she was right at the edge of cliff face. "Oh shit, thanks!" She started to walk back towards Ameliy, when she stepped on a rock and rolled her ankle, she fell backwards off the cliff. Ameliy heard the thud at the bottom. she ran to the edge and looked over. She saw that Ruth had landed on a ledge not far from the top. she called out to Ruth but no response. Ameliy ran to the hospital and got Ruth's dad. They ran to the cliff edge and she explained what happened. Once her dad got her into the hospital he came to tell Ameliy what happened. Ruth was in a coma and they didn't know when she would be out of it. Ruth's dad asked "Did you do this to her?" "Why would I do this to my best friend?" Ameliy answer strong and confident but sad all at the same time.

3 weeks since the accident. Ameliy would go into the hospital sing to her. A different song every time. Until one day she came in and Ruth said "I heard you sing, everyday. Every word. I felt your hands on mine. But I couldn't. Speak." she starts to cry. She continues to talk, "How long- How long has it been?" "3 weeks, 4 days, 7 hours, 31 minutes, 48 seconds and counting." A tear drops from my left eye. She hands Ameliy a letter and says "The doctor said I won't live for much longer. The fall broke my back in three different places, she said it's a surprise I didn't broke my neck. Don't read it until my funeral. Ok?" Ameliy nods "Promise."  A doctor comes in and gives Ruth a needle, I look away. They do a their handshake she leaves to let Ruth rest.

Another month later and Ameliy was attending her best friends funeral. Her sister. Who she thought was her soulmate. Ameliy did a speech and decided to read the letter out for everyone to here. "So I'm Ameliy, I was her best friend and when she woke up, in hospital she gave me a note and she said 'Don't read it until my funeral.' She knew she was going to die...But I'm going to read it out to you now." and some tears fall down her face. She starts to read, out loud for everybody to hear.

"Dear best friend, my sister, my flower, my soulmate. I'm sorry you have to read this... our plan didn't go as planned. We were meant to be happy, like in the fairy tales and books we read. But we're not in a book, or a movie. Life can't be planned no matter how much we tried. We were the princess's in the story, but happy ever after wasn't our ending, well not mine anyway. We had our ups and downs or something like that anyway. I always wanted to tell you I loved you. I wanted to grow old being together. Not like best friends but like lovers. And I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I'm sorry I had to leave you. - love you <3 your best friend, Ruth. Ameliy started crying. I leave the podium and go back to my seat. Ruth's dad whispered in her ear. "I always knew she liked you..." I nod and say thank you.

That is the end of the story. And your probably thinking how I know this story...It's because I'm Ameliy, and I'm laying in the same bed my Best friend died in. And I'm going to join her soon. It's been 78 years since it happened and I still remember it like the back of my hand. See? No happy endings...
