On that day, the sky was unusually monochrome, wrapping itself around a tired Earth. The sun, as stubborn as her, refused to come out, too bored to do its one job.

There was a tired peace that surrounded her house, no birds were chirping, no rustling sounds from bushes caused by squirrels, no loud barking from the neighbour's dog; although she knows she doesn't miss it.

It was like there was an indefinite pause in time as if time was tired of moving and just needed a break, something she definitely could relate to.

She was not used to having to wake up this early at all. It had been three long, peaceful months of relaxing at home, binge-watching Netflix shows, and a whole more relaxing for Elodie Francois, but now, the dreaded time has come. She would have no time to stay up as late as she wanted, nor would she have time to sleep in until she felt like getting up.

There would be no time for television either because she was a 'big girl' now and needed to attend to her 'responsibilities'. It was going to be hell, and Elodie knew it before the real hell even started.

As a light sheet of rain began to layer the cold ground, Elodie hoped for a miracle; that maybe, just maybe, the school took pity on her and decided to cancel school because of this light rain.

But that only happened in movies.

She turned onto her other side, seeking for the comfort of a cold spot on the pillow, only to be cursed with the sight of that dreaded invention humanity happened to make.

The alarm.

One more minute, she thought, if I can squeeze in just one more minute of sleep...

"Elodie! Elodie! Wake up, wake up!! Don't make me come up there!"

Her mother's voice boomed across the winding hallways, up those endless flights of stairs, and into Elodie's tired ears.

Her world, so warm and peaceful, has been attacked by those harsh, harsh words.

There was no escaping it; there was no avoiding it; worst of all, there was no stopping it.

Her worst nightmare, the one thing she would, without remorse, remove from existence, had begun.

She stood up on her oversized kingdom, looking onto the treacherous, cold and unforgiving floor below her heaven.

Using the protection of her warm, fuzzy slippers, she traverses the unconquerable lands she called 'The Floor', reached the other side in one piece, stretched a bit and opened the door.

The smell of freshly made pancakes wafted through the air, dancing into her nostrils and battling her empty stomach.

She wanted to, she did, but before collecting her prize, one more enemy must be defeated.

Ignoring the alluring aroma of those oh-so-delicious pancakes, she headed for the naval battle site ordinary people called 'The Bathroom', her slippers sliding across the polished, marble floor.

As she neared the place where no happiness ever returned alive, she passed by her loyal secret keeper, guard, but most importantly, her only friend, Stanley the Statue, with tears burning her eyes, as she gently brushed her hands on its cold, emotionless face.

Finally, the final boss, the finale everyone anticipated.

It was time to commence... Operation: Get Yasmina to leave.

However, maybe, just maybe, there was hope. Maybe, Elodie managed to wake up before her twin sister, meaning that all of the bloodsheds could be avoided!
