Rex, Charlie, Emma and I were sitting infront of the TV, watching The Breakfast Club. It's what we usually did. Not that there was anything else to do. We had done every board game in the house at least 15 times already. And I've read every book I could find here. Charlie, Emma and I were on the couch and Rex was on the floor, leaning against my legs. Matt was playing some golf in the hallway.

"What would I do for a million bucks?" Claire asked.

"I guess I'd do as little as I had to." Andrew answered

"Would you drive to school naked?" Claire responed

"Would I have to get out of the car?" Andrew asked.

The door opened and Matt dropped the golfclub. We stood up as we heard Danny come in.

"Hey, guys, package!" He yelled.

Package? Since when are we getting packages?

"Hey, that's a package!" Rex called out.

"Yea no shit." I told him

"Nice find, Danny!" Emma said

"I found it by the pool." Danny smiled proudly

We all gathered round the box. It seemed to be wrapped in tinfoil?

"Come on, food, food, food!" Emma and I crossed out fingers

"Cigarettes, cigarettes..."

"Yes, yes, yes!"

Rex opened the box but the only thing in it were bricks.

"Bricks?" We all said in disbelieve. This can't be happening! We're running out of food. And they send us bricks?!

I woke up from my thoughts when Charlie spoke up, "And a letter?"

"This isn't funny. We need supplies." I said

Rex sighed. "They're tightening the screws."

Charlie gave Danny the letter, "It's addressed to you." Danny took it and walked a few feet away from us. Rex layed down leaning on his arms for support. I sat down next to him and gave him a little smile. He smiled back

"I want a letter." Charlie complained

"What is it, man?" Rex asked Danny. He was still reading the letter in disbelieve. He sighed and walked out of the room

"Danny?" I asked but he walked up the stairs.

"Hey..."

--

Danny had locked himself in his room. He'd slit the letter under the door so we could read. The rest of us were sitting at the kitchen table. "So... the letter said that the funeral takes place in two days, in Florida." Rex sighed.

"Florida?" I asked

"Yeah. So obviously he wouldn't make it back for the curfew."

"We can't stop him if he wants to go." Emma spoke up.

"No." Rex said, "We're just going to have to persuade him that it's in his best interests to stay here, right?"

 "His best interests?" Emma asked.

"Yeah, guys, look, we don't even know if this letter's real or not." I sided with Rex.

Charlie scoffed, "Only a twisted mind would think of that."

"Yes, and they are twisted." Rex spoke up. "What's this? What the hell, bricks instead of food?! You don't think this could be part of their game?"

"Jesus Christ! Could you build a creepier house? What if they're fucking with us?" I added.

"All right Rex and Y/n got a point." Matt admitted.

Rex sighed. "Think about it. First, no heat, then no food, now this. You don't think this could be part of their game? Danny's the weakest link. They want to break us..."

"Oh, come on, Rex!" Emma exclaimed.

"No, think about it. Really, really think about it. We are this close to a million dollars, guys. We are this close. They don't want to pay us. They don't want us to make it."

"Or maybe they're trying to spice it up for the viewers." I questioned.

"Or maybe his grandfather is dead!" Emma yelled.

"Well, Emma, if his grandfather's dead, he's dead! I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about it!" Rex yelled back.

"His grandfather... practically raised him. What, do you have no feelings at all?"

"Oh, cut the crap. I'm here for the money, okay? So are you. Dress it up however you want. "Exposure," "slumming it," "finding yourself," I don't know what. But the only person who's not here for the money is probably the person who needs it the most, but no... Danny's here to make friends. Okay, fine, let's be friends to the guy, let's give him some "help." Some long-term, practical help."

"We can't hold a gun to his head." I admitted.

"No."

"No."

"Okay, we'll tell him we'll have an alternative memorial service in the yard." Rex said, "Emma, tell him."

"You tell him!" She exclaimed.

"Come on, Emma, we know he likes you best. Just ask him nicely." I told her.

"You would do it best." Charlie admitted. Emma scoffed and walked out of the room.

"I knew we should have just let him go. Some things are more important than money." Matt said.

"What, like pussy?" Rex laughed

"Hey, man, fuck you! Doesn't family mean anything to you?"

"You don't miss what you never had." Rex sighed.
