"And your ass should still be in a hospital bed!" Fury yelled pointing at Cara warningly.
"Yes she should be, she should have stayed in the hospital bed." Bucky said with venom in his words.
Cara turned glaring at Bucky who ignored her looking ahead expressionless at Fury, Maria, Coulson and Steve.
"Had she not left that bed, I'd still be one of Hydra's flying monkey puppets." Steve shot back.
"Like I said, she should have stayed in the hospital bed." Bucky said coldly.
Steve glared at him, so did Cara and Sam.
"What the fuck Buck, are you serious-" Cara started.
"ENOUGH!!" Fury yelled.
Fury now looked at Steve, somehow angrily surprised by his presence. Coulson could barely contain his excitement, smiling shaking Steve's hand and Maria, carried a smart tablet for anything she may need, an all business look on her face. Placing his hands on his hips Fury looked at Steve eyebrows raised and as he spoke he looked around the room at all of them.
"If we're done with your bullshit, let's get started! I have a lot of questions, starting with how the hell your ass is alive!" He said loudly.
Steve stood a little taller, hands on his hips, and took a deep breath as Fury, Coulson and Maria, all took seats near the head of the table. He looked at Cara, who gave him a reassuring smile, before he started. He gave a quick smile back before he looked around at everyone.
"Right. First, I'd like to say how thankful I am to see you all again. For a while I wasn't sure I was ever going to again." Steve said sincerely.
A lot of them nodded respectfully, Bucky and Loki both stared daggers, but almost everyone was happy to see him again.
"When the charges went off, and the Hydra facility was exploding, Bucky saved Cara, which is something I can never be thankful enough for. While he did that, I fought Strucker. Most of you know that." Steve started.
"So tell us what we don't know." Buck spat out.
Steve glared at him annoyed as Cara turned around to look at him in surprise at this sudden feud they were having. Even Fury turned from Steve to look in Bucky's direction briefly before slowly looking back at Steve unamused. A lot of the team looked uneasy too, feeling the tension in the room. Steve continued, finally looking away from Bucky.
"When the room exploded, Strucker had a device that was meant to save only him, some sort of shielding device that engulfed him to protect him. But since we were fighting, I was pulled in to it too. Having the advantage, Strucker knocked me out with something in a syringe. When I came to, I was strapped to some sort of machine." Steve started.
"The Memory Suppressing Machine." Cara and Bucky said at the same time.
Everyone turned to look at them as if they had all just suddenly remembered that Bucky and Cara had been under Hydra control too.
"I um- didn't know what it was called. I just know that it was -" Steve began again.
"A bitch and a half." Bucky and Cara said together again.
Steve looked from Cara to Bucky in surprise as well as confusion.
"Oh, you have no idea. They can be annoying as shit with their little in sync crap." Clint said to Steve.
"Yes, it can indeed sometimes be quite annoying, but overall I find their bond a comfort of sorts." Vision added.
Without looking at Vision, Bucky smiled at the remark, looking at Steve. Brushing the comment off, Steve went on.
"Anyway. Day after day, as I'm sure Buck and Cara can tell you, they drug me to this machine and they shocked me and brainwashed me, forcing me to learn my trigger words. When they were finished for the day, they would drag me back to my cell, barely conscious. For 3 months they did this to me, and I fought it every day until suddenly I wasn't in control anymore." Steve said, pacing now.
The room was quiet, listening carefully, sadly, to what he had gone through. Unknowingly to herself, Cara had put her hand back on Bucky's thigh for comfort, the other hand balled in a fist over her mouth, elbow resting on the table. But Bucky had noticed, he was afraid to move for fear she would realize what she had done. Every bit of him wanted to put his hand on hers and soothe her anxiousness in Steve's recounting.
"How did they keep you off of our radar?" Maria asked.
"After I lost control, when I wasn't training, or being used, they had me put out. I have no idea where the facility was, I was out when they moved me to and from it, I would wake when I had reached my target location." Steve answered.
"Similar to what they'd done to Bucky over 70 years except in a much more isolated time frame." Nat suggested.
Steve nodded before another question was asked.
"Do you remember the missions you carried out for them?" Coulson asked pulling up the footage they had discovered on the smart wall.
Steve didn't even turn to look instead he looked down before looking up around the group.
"I remember them all." Steve responded, the sadness behind his eyes.
The room was silent. Bucky understanding all too well but he wasn't ready to give him that satisfaction. Cara, though not under Hydra control nearly as long as either of them, understood to some degree, remembering all those she had killed too. By now Bucky had gently placed his hand on hers, Cara still not noticing, either ignoring it or truly unaware.
"Captain, how did you snap out of the control? The museum incident was only a day ago, you and Cara literally almost killed each other." Maria asked.
"I was left in the field to finish the job. So I was across the way from the tower waiting, studying as I watched and something inside me became conflicted when I saw Cara in the medical recovery. So I snuck into the tower, but found myself walking past the room I intended, and into mine, that's where Cara found me." Steve said.
"We thought your target was the mayor. So you had another target you were left to take care of? Who was the target?" Fury asked.
