Normal. Normal day. Normal School. Boring. Boring day. Boring school. People have learned not to stare. I am normal now. Luna walks down the hall these thoughts in her head, as always. At first sight, she just looks like your typical teenager, but when people try to talk to her, she gets this look in her eyes that say, "I'm going to hurt you". They decide it's best to leave her alone. But today, of all days, is a special day. Today, is Luna's 16th birthday. Nothing seems to change though. It is just another boring day in a boring school. Luna trudges down the long, chatty, hallway. She feels the eyes of people staring at her. Odd. Luna thought. I thought I taught them all lessons. Luna puts her finger on her cheek, an feels something that is not exactly her own skin. She rushes to the empty girl's bathroom. "Oh fuck." Luna says out loud as she looks into the mirror. She has a full face of makeup on, with eyeliner and everything. Luna tries to wash the makeup off with cold water, but has no such luck. She sighs and slowly walks out of the hall. I don't like all of this attention, Luna thinks to herself. People are gaping and whispering about her. She keeps her head down and speed walks to her locker. While shifting through all the junk in her locker, a boy comes up to her. He leans against the locker next to her and looks her up and down. "Hey" He finally says. Luna, not knowing he was there, quickly slams her locker shut and looks at him. "Hi..." She says awkwardly. Luna had never had any interest in boys, but this time was different now that one was standing in front of her, talking to her. "Are you new here?" He asked. Luna blushes. Normally, this question would offend her and she would have to teach him a lesson with a slap across the face, but this time, Luna's stomach is filled with butterflies. "Uh no, actually. My name's Luna." The boy looked embarrassed. "Sorry. I knew you looked familiar. My name is Atlas." There was an awkward pause as the two just stared at each other. Their eyes locked and both looked away at the same time. "Um, I gotta go.. See you later Luna." "Oh, bye..!" Luna called after Atlas as he walked away. She just stood there with a stupid smile on her face. Suddenly, the bell rang and Luna rushed to class. As she got into the classroom, everyone was standing up behind their chair. She followed along and the teacher claimed they had new seating arrangements. Luna found herself next to a shy, quiet girl. "Uh hi there." Luna said, trying to be nice. The girl, nose burred in her book, just nodded in acknowledgement. "Er, my name is Luna, what's yours?" The girl still did not look up from her book. "Rose." She mumbled. Luna opened her mouth to say something else, but Rose cut her short, "Can't you see I'm trying to read?" she snapped. Luna just decides to stop talking and pay attention to the teacher who started talking about algebra. She sighs and her mind starts racing. This is gonna be a long day, Luna thinks.
