Ethan had always loved listening to the soothing music of piano. He would get enchanted by the beautiful and intricate tunes that he would listen. It was as if his only felt alive when he listened to it. It was the 12 year old school boy's dream to be able to play so finely. Unfortunately, he wasn't wealthy enough to be able to buy or learn the instrument. Though reality was terrible, Ethan always still wished.

Now where could the poor boy quench his thirst for the pleasant tunes of a piano in the early 19th century? A few months back, he had found his solution. One night, when he was wandering in the streets at night, he had heard the sweet noise of a piano in distance. His faithful ears managed to take him to a lady, playing The Old Bachelor by Dorothy Mesney. He stood outside her house, listening and returned the next day at the same time to find her playing and it became a routine.

Ethan would go and stand outside her house every day, no matter how cold it was and listened to the piano. It was as if the melody warmed his heart enough to give him the strength to stand there even when it snowed and snowed. The young boy admired the lady, who religiously practiced the instrument. He often imagined himself to be the one playing and swaying as his fingers worked up a new tune.

What Ethan didn't know was that the lady was Angelica Purcell, the greatest female pianist of the age. Angelica was known and heard by all music admirers. They called her the best and her performance at the Van Rhiegn Theatre last spring was known as her best performance. It was her first performance after her only child's death. That day, Angelica had lost herself in the music but she didn't love it. That performance, she played the piano from her heart but her soul was detached. So, opposing to what people said, Angelica knew that her best only came when she had a particular person in audience.

Somehow, it was this boy's presence that brought the best out of her. Maybe it was because she felt a connection with him. Their love for the instrument. Mrs. Purcell knew that the boy stood there every night infact, she was very aware of it. But she was scared that if she called the boy, he would stop coming. The famous pianist knew what embarrassment was felt in such situation. She knew it from her first hand experience. Now, she was dying and she wanted to talk to the boy. She needed to.
