─ You know, Sarah, I've investigated a little bit about this place on sixth graded, it'll be fine!
─Last time you investigated a little was that one time in the theme park and we got lost after five minutes.
─C'mon, it'll be alright! Why don't you just walk in?
Sarah was standing right next to the door of the classroom, it was going to be her first class ever in this place, and everyone's too after Summer had ended.
Everyone's got a conscience voice, that one who tells you what is the right thing or the wrong choice, if you should or shouldn't, must or mustn't. Sarah's conscience voice was just... "Girl, don't even enter there, it'll be worse." She always hoped she was doing right, her decisions were based out not in logic, but in what she thought was good or bad.
As the students were entering the classroom, the teacher was standing next to the door, greeting some students with a happy face, others with a regular smile, or just ignoring a little minory. And as for Sarah, well...
─ Miss, down here! ─ Sarah said, hoping to be noticed. ─Oh, sorry deary! I did not see you, come in, class is about to start and you're the last one! ─
Last one? She discovered on first sight that Melinda was already on her chair, waving to her and offering a seat next to her.
─ Hello, students! You can call me miss Young, and for now on, I'll be your teacher. I will show you how things work in here, by the rules. ─
Sarah was interested by this, she wanted to be a good student, even tho she was the only one listening, she did not want to miss any detail. In case anything important would be said, she would be paying attention. The first thing she noticed is that, in her seat, her feet couldn't reach the floor, which felt weird. Another thing she noticed is that her back hurted so much, like a lot, she knew she had some back problems, but this was unexpected.
Sarah took a quick look at the class, the students, more exactly. It wasn't mostly girls or boys, it was actually half and half. But of course, some things were off. All students were given a laptop used specifically for school, well, some of them open it and hide their phones back the screen, simulating to be studying, but actually watching Pinterest or Tik Tok.
"You may wanna listen to this." Her conscience kept her out of her thoughts, and once again, started paying attention.
─ Psst... Sarah... ─ Melinda whispered at Sarah's ear. ─ How aren't you falling asleep with this? Boring as heck! ─ She said.
In fact, Sarah did want to do something else, something she'd been working on, but we'll leave that for later.
As the class ended, in the play yard, Sarah met her very first enemy on high school: Multitudes.
She's never been good at socialising, never. She tried, but her shy attitude always kept making trouble on making friends, Melinda was the only friend she could trust, or even have.
Sarah started sweating.
Too many people.
Too many sound.
Too many everything.
Sarah felt crowded as the student were waiting on the hallway for the teacher to open the door of outside. She was lost under a pile of teenagers, screaming and whinning to each other. Her head hurted so bad.
She always tried to understand everything in her life. Why was she scared of making friends? Or why was she so scared of multitudes? She's never liked multitudes, they felt like a fight, an argument, and they tend to end like that. Why stay here if they are just going to scream at each other? Sarah always wondered.
She was surounded by complete unknown people, fortunately for her, someone grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out from that noisy torture. Melinda looked VERY worried at Sarah, who just responded with a smile and some words.
─ Th-thanks... ─
─ What happened there? Are you ok? You look pale! ─ Melinda claimed. ─ Did someone hurt you? Or did you fall or something? ─
─ It's not that, it's just that... Come, I'll explain to you. ─
Melinda followed Sarah on the recess, to a bench.
─ I... Do have some... Problems... ─ She covered her face with the hoodie's neck. ─ On socialising, specially... ─
─ And you tell me that now? Since when, fifth grade? ─
─ Even before then... ─ Sarah's voice was trembling, she was not scared, but still affected to the incident on the door.
─ That's some serious problems... You gotta visit a psichologyst, maybe... ─
"NO." The conscience voice in her head would keep repeating, she never wanted neither believed on psichologysts. 'You just pay to them and they tell you what you want to hear.' Her dad would always repeat when asked.
─ I'm not sure about this... ─ And the ringing interrupted Sarah, the one that meant freedom for both sides, students and professors, but mostly for Sarah.
─ Too late... We'll talk tomorrow. ─
─ Mel, today's Friday. ─
─ One never knows! See you, Sar! ─
─ See you, and I told you to stop calling me that! ─ Sarah claimed.
─ And I told you to stop calling me Mel! ─ Melinda's voice would be heard on the distance.
It was finally time to return home. Sarah already knew the way home by walk, as she practiced before starting the grade. She plugged her headphones in the phone, opened the Spotify app and started listening to music all the way to her home. Today was the first day, so it was short, but next week, Monday, real class started, six hours trapped inside a building with a lot of salvage teenagers? She thought on it for a while, it wasn't that bad.
She arrived home, her mom greeted her with a hug, and her cat, Mr. Mittens, by playing with her for a while. Time flew by, she already ate dinner and went to sleep...
─ Saturday, freedom day! No school, no mom, just me and Melinda watching TV movies, as always, aren't you excited, Mr. Mittens? ─ The ringing of her house interrupted her monologue with the confused cat. ─ Huh? Too early... It is barely 11 P.M.... ─
She put on some clothes and went to open the door, her parents were already at work.
The surprise was even bigger when Melinda was at the door, she grabbed Sarah's arm.
─ My girl, hope you are ready, cause we are hanging OUT today! ─
─ You've gotta be kidding me... ─ Sarah said, with dissapointment, as Mr. Mittens was also dissapointed at Melinda.
