A simple air to air dogfight would only last several minutes at best on average. But that was the statistics years ago, before the cold war era. Now with such speed, weaponry, and devastation at an alarming level, a simple fight could last forever.

POV changes to Jager

Landing onto the airstrip, Jager would sigh in relief as he was able to land the bird onto the runway safely, which wasn't an easy job in the weather. As the people outside signaled his cue to safely get out, he popped the canopy and took a deep breath of the freezing, dry air.

Hibana: "I see why you escort most of the team around to where we need to be."

Jager: "Yeah, of course. Say, I need something to warm up with." He'd stretch along the runway

Hibana: "Sure thing. Heater is working in the quarters. Echo should be in there too. Where are your other buddies..?"

Jager: "I'm... not sure. The S.A.S secretly sent us familiar faces."

Hibana: "We know a few of them. Care to name one at least?"

Jager: "I guarantee that they at least sent Thatcher and his buddy Sledge."

Hibana: "Makes sense. I will see you in the quarters later then. Got to get a ride near the point a few klicks from the zone." She'd wave Jager goodbye

Jager: "Right..." He waved goodbye as well, and glanced at the sky.

The skies were dense than ever, and Jager hoped that he wouldn't be back in the sky for any particular reason. As he went for the resting quarters, he heard a small boom and heard it fly across the runway and crackle away. Turning back to his jet and switching on his small radio on his vest, he turned it on.

Jager: On the radio "This is Jager, is there anyone in the sky?"

The radio was silent for a second, then a voice came up

?: "This is the control  tower. Currently, we are avoiding any pilots on flying at this time."

Jager: "I'm afraid we aren't in a safe moment of time right now. I believe a sonic boom has erupted and traveled towards us."

?: "Listen... Jager yes?"

Jager: "Yes, its Jager. I know you will have an officer stop me, but I'm pretty much the same as the other officers around here. I think there's a threat in the skies."

?: "Don't worry about it, the skies are too thick for any air raids."

As Jager looked at the sky again, a slow and loudening whoosh could be heard. He dove under the fuselage of his plane and got low onto the ground face first.

Some loud booms went off, and as Jager lifted his head slightly, his helmet would show the barely visible explosions at the main part of the air base. Without hesitating, he would get out from the belly of his jet and saw others scrambling to get into the sky. As he jumped into the cockpit and got himself prepared, he maxed the throttle and screamed straight into the sky.

The jet needed resupplying, and some of the red lights blinked at Jager out of aggression, but he would ignore it and do a hard bank to the right to turn back to the air base. Preparing his weapons, he climbed into the air and searched to see any shadows or shapes that looked out of place. Then, he heard a loud boom and whoosh pass on his left wing and over, and a large jet disappeared from his view.

Jager: "So that's where you are..." He turned his stick right

The jet turned, and Jager tried to tail it, but as he searched for the Jet again and looking at his cockpit, he had no sign or detection of the jet. Then, another boom came and the an impact hit his left wing and the same jet passes by Jager once again. His jet shook as the large caliber tore right through and damaged the jet.
