One night I woke up scared out of my mind, I sat up in my bed, the cold midnight air scraping a tree branch against my window. I couldn't help but feel watched, not after what I had learned yesterday afternoon. The night was silent as I sat in my warm bed, struggling to catch my breath. I fanned myself, "Why was this happening?" I wondered to myself making sure not to be too loud. I got out of bed, the floorboards creaked under my weight, when I arrived I noticed something strange, the beds were empty, though the sheets were pushed back, indicating the bed had not been empty for long. I rubbed my hand against the bed, it was warm, it was recently used. I looked around the room in fear, "Where had my parents gone?" I had to find them. What if they were hurt? I did not want to take any chances, as I glanced around the room I noticed the window was open, a trail of black ooze leading through the room and out of the window.
As soon as my eyes hit the ooze I knew what happened, I knew what to do.
I ran out of my parents room, fear rushed over me, I wanted to scream. My parents warned me yesterday, "Someday, no one knows when, something bad will happen to us, avoid the ooze". What was I running from? No clue at all, but if they hurt my parents they could hurt me too. I hid in a small cupboard in my room, ten minutes, nothing. Twenty minutes, nothing. As soon as it hit the thirty minute mark I heard something, footsteps slowly approaching my cupboard, I went deathly silent breathing reluctantly. As the creature reached the cupboard there was a voice, "Oh quit fooling around!" the voice had yelled, "You think they would hide it there?!" The voice was raspy and cold, if I were the creature I would cry.
The room went silent for a bit until there was a loud grunt, kind of funny sounding, there was no other way to describe it. As soon as the footsteps faded away from my room I peaked out of the cupboard, the coast was clear. I got out slowly and quietly making sure to listen in case the things were still here. I heard nothing, taking that as a good sign I ran out of my room and escaped the house through a window (not including the three minute struggle to unlock and push it open). The night was cold, my clothing, plaid PJs and slippers, don't judge did not help to keep me warm. As I walked the grass squished under me, drops of water left from the rain yesterday got my pant legs soaked at the end, even worse. As I ran I held out the necklace my mother had got me for my birthday three years ago, it had a sort of gem inside it, a gold lace was wrapped around it. My mother had always told me that when I need it most, "use the necklace", whatever that means.
Despite the fear rushing through my body, I was confused too. Why was this happening to me? Where did they take my mother and father? Why now? It's so late I can barely see, yet I kept running unsure of what to do. I ran and ran until the sun started creeping over the hills, I was tired, hungry, and afraid. I sat in an alleyway, I had no clue how far I just ran, but I knew it wasn't far enough, not yet.
The alley was not the prettiest place, it smelt of damp trash and soaked baby diapers, yuck. Though it was exceptionally clean, no trash was out of the bin, no evil men, perfect. Before I knew it I had closed my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep. Now at first sleeping sounded delightful! The smallest chance to close my eyes and relax was a heavenly feeling, at first at least. I slept peacefully at first, but that came to an end when I appeared in a cold room, the air smelled of grease and other sickly smells I would prefer to ignore. The room was almost pitch black, in an attempt to see I squinted and looked around, I quickly realized I was in a sewer, yuck! (yuck counter number 2)
It was silent other than the sudden grunts and groans. Automatically I recognized the voice, it was the man who had almost seen me at my home. I crept closer trying to see what was happening, but as soon as I did the scene shifted. What did I see, you may ask, and if I had an answer I would tell you, but I had no clue. My vision kept shifting, blue to red, red to black, black to blue again. I heard laughter, screams, cries, claps, songs, and more. It slowly got more and more overwhelming, as if I had seen too much, I couldn't get it away, the sounds followed me. When I woke up I was covered in sweat, I felt like I hadn't slept at all, thought something odd happened, I glanced down to my necklace, now it was glowing a bright shade of purple, it's never done this before? Despite the fear and confusion coursing through my body, I took a deep breath, stood, and continued my adventure.
