"And scene! Miles your bass was a little faded did you add something to it?" Asked a man named Ronald. "No, maybe it wasn't plugged in?" Replied Miles. "Check it then."
"On it."
"Are we still heading to that coffee shop Ronnie?" Asked another man named Dennis. "Yeah, it's just seeing if we can get this right."
Then there's Jenny. Jenny Roxanai. Drummer of what everyone calls 'The Disco Evergreens'.
"Jens? You coming with?" Asked Ronnie.
"Huh? Oh yeah. I'm coming with. I'm paying right?"
"Well yeah."
"Right." She took a deep breath and put her hair out of her face. "I always pay for things."
"MILES IS THE BASS IN?"
"YEAH! MAYBE I DID ADD SOMETHING!"
"WELL GET BACK OVER HERE WE'RE DOING ANOTHER TAKE!"
"AGAIN?"
"THE BATTERY'S STILL NOT FULL! WE'RE GONNA DO ONE MORE!"
"SO FUCKING bossy you are." Miles said as he came back from where he went.
"I'm the leader of this band. I'm supposed to be bossy."
Dennis looked back at Jenny who looked more down than she was. "Jenny are you alright?" She looked up. "I'm fine. Just tired."
"I relate. I understand."
"Start us up Jens!"
"Aye aye Mcdonald." She replied monotone as she clicked her drumsticks together and pressed the base pedal down.
"Battery's full. We can stop for today."
"All that for your fucking phone?!"
"I'm special Mennis. I'm rich."
"Right." Dennis looked at the drumset and noticed that Jenny wasn't there. "Jenny's left."
"What?" The two looked and Ronnie groaned. "What the fuck?! She's paying for our coffee and she chickened out?!"
"I didn't chicken out Ron. I was getting my fucking wallet. Calm your arse." Jenny appeared from the curtains. "Well tell us next time then. I was actually about to lose it there."
"Like you don't usually do?" Miles remarked running over to Jenny and giving her a high five. She did one back. "Look I'm dying for some caffeine. I'll be at the van waiting for you . Hurry." He stated as he walked out of the hall. The door closed and Jenny put her drum sticks down as she huffed. "He's such an asshole. We're not even that good."
"I agree. Fucking prick. Jens don't worry about paying. Just gimme your credit card and I'll add money into it. I'll pay for the coffee." Miles whispered to her. This made her smile. "Thanks Miles."
"No problem. Now let's get to the van. Don't want to keep the clown waiting."
"And then I told him to FUCK OFF as I spat in his face and kicked him in the chest." Ronnie was telling a story as Dennis was on his phone and so was Jenny while Miles listened with curiosity. "And that's how everyone knows not to fuck with me."
"You nearly broke someone's ribs just because they wanted to hug you?" Dennis asked.
"It was the fucking paparazzi! No one likes the paparazzi. Not even Machine Gun Kelly!"
"No one likes Machine Gun Kelly." Jenny mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
"But he was your dad."
"Whatever. No one gets to hug me. Unless I say so or I get paid."
"Of course." Jenny mumbled again as she was texting one of her friends about how much of an asshole Ronnie was. "Jens who are you texting?"
"Anali, why?"
"Maybe you would like to talk about stuff in your life. Interact a little? The class is waiting."
"See the thing is Ronnie, I would love to but whenever I do you either interrupt me or you tell me to stop coz it's 'boring' or 'exhausting'. Jenny started as she put her phone away. "I get that we're becoming popular and that you love the attention but maybe can you get off your fucking high horse and think that maybe the reason we're becoming popular is because you're rich and we're like the neon fucking trees?!" Miles and Dennis were surprised as Ronnie was taken aback. "Is it the time of the month for you Jens? I've never seen you this worked up."
"See this is what it is. You don't give a shit about anyone but yourself and you treat the three of us like shit. Miles not so much but that's only because his personality is a fucking golden retriever while Dennis doesn't give a shit. But me? You treat me the fucking worst. You make me pay for everything and then when we're performing in the city hall you're always in front of me and whenever I do backing vocals I can see you motioning to backstage to turn me down. You think I don't see that? You think I'm dumb? Like a dumb little bimbo who can't do shit for herself coz her libido is too fucking high?! Well I'm not. I've got as much importance here as the rest of you do." She finished as then she slowly realized what she just said. Dennis and Miles were double surprised while Ronnie just stared. He didn't know what to say. His face couldn't express. "Oh fuck. I-"
"Don't. I see how it is. You're jealous of me Roxanai. I see it. I know it. Well not everything's about you. The world doesn't revolve around you." He warned as he leaned over the table.
"I seriously hope you think you're talking into a mirror Larz." Jenny did the same as they both glared at each other.
"Hey guys? We're in public maybe we could-"
"I'm talking into a shell of someone who I thought would be there for us. Someone I thought who would back us up. Someone who I thought as a acquaintance." Jenny's face became more betrayed as she felt like she was going to cry. "You never saw me as a friend you heartless dick?!"
"I never saw you as anything useful. I see you as pathetic. Useless. You're the reason that we're not famous."
"Alright Ronnie that's enough!" Dennis tried to stop Ronnie. "You're a horrible drummer, a horrible person. I bet your dad up there would be disappointed-"
"DON'T YOU FUCKIN DARE BRING MY DA INTO THIS." Jenny flipped the table in a fit of rage. "YOU DON'T GET TO SAY TO ME THAT MY FAMILY WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED IN ME WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW MY FUCKING FAMILY. I KNOW THEY WOULD BE PROUD OF ME NO MATTER WHAT I DO AND FOR YOU TO SAY THAT MY DA WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED IN ME IS A FUCKING LOW BAR. And you definitely don't. You definitely don't dare say that he would be disappointed in me when you know that he's dead. Fuck you Ronnie. I fucking quit." Jenny took out her drum sticks and threw them in his face as she walked out of the coffee shop and stormed off. She reached a bit in the sidewalk as then she felt the tears arriving. She bunched her fists together and pulled at her scalp as she tried to hold them in. "Fucking Ronnie. Fucking heartless selfish piece of shit! Why did you bring Da into it? Why couldn't you say that you didn't want me in the band anymore?!" She screamed as she collapsed onto the sidewalk and sobbed. "And to think you were my fucking crush at one point in my childhood. Fuck you Ronnie." She got up and went to a bus stop. She got her phone out and decided to phone Anali. It rang and then she picked up.
"Anali."
"Ana are you free right now? I'm a mess right now. Ronnie brought my fucking Da into an argument and I'm not in the band anymore. They haven't said it but I know I'm kicked out after what I did in the coffee shop." She explained as she wiped her cheeks.
"Where are you?"
"Near May street. Why?"
"I'm heading to my brother's. I'll pick you up and you can spend time with us. It's his birthday today."
"Oh. I'll give him money."
"It's fine. You don't need to give anything. I'll see you in a few. Just try and breath. If you have water drink some and eat something."
"Alright. Thanks." She hung up and she sniffed. She got out some water and drank some. "Fucking Ronnie. He's probably telling Miles and Dennis how much of a shit I am. How unstable I am. Fucking misogynist." A couple of minutes later a car pulled up in front of the bus stop. The window rolled down to reveal Anali concerned for Jenny. "Ana.." Jenny breathed out as Anali got out of the car and they both hugged, Jenny gripping onto her. "Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry if I ruin Alkasim's birthday."
"It's fine. I told him and he said he'll give you some of his cake."
"I like cake."
"I know you do. Now come on." Anali helped Jenny into the passenger seat as she clipped herself in and rolled the window up a little. "You don't need to tell me in detail. I'm proud that you stood up to him."
"He told me my da would be disappointed."
"He wouldn't. I know that."
"Hey little sis. Hi Jenny!"
"Hey big bro."
"Hey Alka."
"Happy birthday!" They both said in unison. "Thanks very much. The family's just gave out the cake. I saved a piece for you Jenny. Come on in." He led her in as Anali closed the door. The three of them walked into the living room as everyone cheered for Alkasim. "And also Jenny!"
"JENNY!" This made her chuckle. "Here you go." Said the mother of Alkasim and Anali as she handed Jenny the piece of cake. "Thanks Mrs Amanah."
"No need to child. You're family." This made Jenny smile more as she ate a piece of the cake and the flavours melted in her mouth. "It's goooood."
"You're welcome child."
"Let's party!" Anali cheered as so did the rest of the family.
"Hey little sis, you told me how Jenny was really upset? You didn't actually explain to me why."
"Oh yeah uhhh, you know how she's in a band?"
"Yeah?"
"And you know the lead singer of the band is the asshole himself Ronnie Larz?"
"Uh huh? Wait. Don't tell me."
"He brought Jenny's deceased father into an argument."
Alkasim gasped. "No!"
"Yup."
"Where is she?"
Jenny then came out of the bathroom with a tissue, wiping her nose. Alkasim went over to her and wrapped her in a bear hug. "Sweetie you poor thing! You didn't deserve what Ronnie said to you!"
"Uhhh thanks?"
"Let it happen. You'll feel better." Anali said as Jenny returned the hug and she could feel the warmth from Alka which made her hiccup and nestle her face in his shoulder. "I needed this for a long time."
"You're welcome sweetie."
"Want me to take you home Jenny?" Anali asked Jenny as she nodded. "Alright, wait outside and I'll be out soon." Jenny gave a thumbs up as she went outside and waited at the car. She watched the sun go down as she thought about what happened at the coffee shop and cracked her fingers. She felt frustrated as what Ronnie said kept playing in her head. She spat on the ground as she heard Anali whistle. "Okay, that's me. Let's get you home."
"Hey Anali?" Jenny asked.
"Yea?"
"Am I a bad person?"
"Well the way I see it, no one's perfect. We're all bad in our own way and no one can judge us for anything. You're not a bad person in my eyes. Ronnie pissed you off and the way you reacted was very valid due to what you've been through from him. He tries to sue you for harassment I'll just get my father up and he'll be your attorney."
This made Jenny giggle as she wiped a tear from her eye. "Thanks Anali."
"No problem. By the way we're here."
"Right." Jenny got out of the car and before she walked away Anali held onto her hand. "If you need anything Jenny, just phone me or come to the house. You are always welcome." Anali assured her as Jenny nodded. She then let go and waved, driving off. Jenny sighed and unlocked the door to her house, going in and shutting the door behind her. She walked through the hallway as she saw a Maine-coon cat on the couch. "Hey Crys. I'm not part of the band anymore all because of that douche Ronnie. I'll find something else though. We'll still have enough money for anything. Especially for you." Crys yawned and climbed on top of Jenny's lap. She giggled and pet his fur as he purred. Then the door went. Jenny put Crys on her side and got up, going to the door. She looked through the peephole and paused. It was Miles and Dennis.
"Jenny? Are you okay? Ronnie isn't with us. He left after you left. He's being a bitch boy as usual."
Miles said as Jenny peeked through and sighed. "Am I out of the band?"
"Well it was only you that said it. But to us, you're still in. We both are not happy with Ronnie as much as you are. He shouldn't have said that about Oisin." Dennis added. "You don't have to let us in but if you want, we were thinking of going to that beach city like place. The one with the theme park and big ass mountain with a cottage on top. That's our bit. Would you like to come along? We could go either tomorrow or the day after." Miles asked. Jenny tried to think. "Is it okay if I just sleep on it? I'll get back with you guys tomorrow. For now I think I just need some sleep."
"Totally valid. We understand. If you need us, text us." Dennis saluted and walked off with Miles. "Bye guys. Thanks for checking up on me." Jenny closed the door and Crys nuzzled his head against her leg. "Thanks as well Crys. Come on, I'm shattered." Jenny started to walk to her room and collapsed onto the bed, Crys climbing up and curling up next to her. "Should I go with Miles and Dennis tomorrow?"
"Meow."
"Meow." Jenny replied. "I'm just....really tired..." She mumbled as she felt her eyes get heavier and her whole state relaxing.
