July 6th 2002,
I was born, a Asian baby, weighing no more than 6 pounds.
My mother and father prayed to our ancestors I would be a boy, but of course I was not.
My mother had no clue what to name me, of course coming by surprise. So she named me after our nurse that was more than kind.
Sage Harper Niko.
Niko of course being out last name.My parents wanted the perfect image, so they tried till they got a boy, luckily for them their pride and joy will be born right after me.
My brother, Harley dice Niko, born February 24th, 2004.
With him I was forgotten, I will admit I didn't mind till my mother forgot my 7th birthday than it started to get me.
But who am I to blame? He didn't choose to be born, neither did I tho.We live in a normal suburban neighborhood, filled with white middle class that work too hard and love their kids too little. I made friends with the only other kids that were not as white as eggshells.
There was Parker kien, he lived three houses down. Then there is Jay frank he lives six house down.
Grace left us when we were 9-10 cause her father died, her mother couldn't keep the house and than they just left. They are my best friends, idiots that is for sure. Jay and Parker saved me from loneliness and I can't repay them, maybe if I get famous I will bring them with me. But this is Ohio and I'm broke.
Anyway, I am saying this to break the ice that covers me from the world you live in. So let's get into real time...
Present day:
I woke up to my alarm blaring, 6:35 am flashing in the cheap clock I got with my birthday money last year. I don't open my eyes, I curl up into fetal position hugging my knees close to my chest.
I don't want to go to school, I rub my eyes as I roll onto my back, it is Friday.I sigh forcing myself out of bed
"What should I wear" I stumbled to my clothes that were in a pile on the chair that stood broken in the corner.
My arm flung around trying to pick up a sweater.
Green and gray stripped sweater, baggy boyfriend jeans and black high top converse and some cheap bra that barley holds.
I went to the bathroom, flicking the light switch and I groan from the bright light that pounds my eyes like the sun.
I splash my face with water and put lotion on, along with brushing my teeth and using the toilet. I get out as soon as I'm dressed since I hear my father waking up.My brother gets a ride to school, but I take the bus though my mother could give me a ride. You see it's the little things that bother me, I try to block them out but it's hard when you know they only kept you to take care of the other.
I take my hair out of the braids that held the curls not so well, and went to the kitchen. My phone and AirPods were in hand since they always were.
"Morning" Harley said
"Morning" I said in my tired voice
"How are feeling?" He asked
"Why you ask?" I say pouring milk in two bowls, sliding one to Harley.
"You drank-" I cut him off
"I'm fine, don't talk about it. Thought we made a deal?" I question scratching my head
"Yeah yeah, but for real, are you okay?" He asked
My father walks in with his fancy suit on
"Why would she not be okay? She has a roof over her head and food. Nothing to not be okay about" he said with a smile getting a cup of coffee.
"We got to get going" my father said to Harley
I took his bowl along with mine and cleaned up before Parker and Jay walk in
"Hey girl" Parker said sitting at the island
"Hey" I said yawning
"Skateboard to school or have my mom drive us?" Jay asked
"Skateboard, it is late start so we got an hour" Parker said, I nodded in agreement."We should practice tonight, I want to scream" I said laughing
"Bro, my mom got me new drums!" Jay smiled
"Hell yeah" I said
"Language!" My mother yelled
"Sorry" I said sheepishly"Come on" Parker said almost running out of the house
"Stop wearing your shoes in the house" she looked at my feet
"Sorry, I got to go"
"Be safe"
All I could do was roll my eyes and give a wave before my hand smacked my thigh.
I grabbed the cheap board I bought last year, Parker taught me how to skate but took me three months and a broken arm to learn.I caught up to them, the sun barely touched our faces the air still crisp.
My backpack hung low on my shoulder. My phone and earbuds in my pocket."We are sophomores, and this is our lives" Parker blurted out
"What you mean?" I asked
"We live in a cookie cutter neighborhood, with our only friends being each other"
"I don't mind it, and at least it is peaceful at night" Jay says kicking his board a little to hard.
"Take a left, I want a monster" Parker says
"Those are going to kill you" I spoke
"Let them" he gave his smile, as he turned to the left of course I followed. At school:
We are a month in, and I am already longing for summer. Me and the boys had so much fucking fun that this is straight bullshit. But whatever, school is needed I guess.
"Hey can I sit here?" A boy asked, kinda cute nerdy vibe
"Sure" I told him, it's math class, nice to have a smart kid next to you when you doze off.
"My name is Valentine, but you can call me Val" he flashed a smile
"Name is sage, you can call me sage" I smile back, I could feel the bags under my eyes"Okay class, today lesson...."
