CONTENT WARNING: zombies, of course
The dream started with me on a ship in a sea of zombies. There was lightning in the sky and the undead as far as I could see. Their arms stretched upwards as they attempted to board the ship and our captain's voice boomed orders for us to keep sailing. It was hard to stay standing as it rocked hard side to side and struggled to carry its way to shore.
We did our best to keep the ship from falling on its side and fought off any zombies that somehow made their way up. There was noise coming from everywhere, and it was starting to sound like just one white noise. The captain, the zombies, the thunder, and the crewmates, everything was incredibly overwhelming. I couldn't hear myself think.
Eventually, we landed and were able to touch the ground. We fought off a last wave of zombies before running up to this house that the captain led us towards. He said it belonged to an old friend of his, so we did not doubt him as we went inside and down the steps to a dark lair.
The shelter was covered: wall to wall with alcohol and some mason jars filled with who-knows-what. Everyone was observing their surroundings out of curiosity and opening things they probably shouldn't have been. I walked over to a window, thinking it was weird to have down here.
I was shocked to see what looked like another dimension. It was bright and clear compared to our grim and dead world. Outside the window were flowers, trees with fruits, and a blue sky with barely any clouds. I watched as a car passed by on a smooth road and jumped as the captain walked up next to me. He told me he knew about this other dimension, so I asked him if we could escape into it. We could burn the house down behind us so nothing would follow us there. He said no.
Someone's brother was left behind, and we were supposed to wait for him to join us. Our captain was pretty set on holding our ground. We obeyed, but it was hard when the door to paradise was three feet away.
