"If you look at the last variable," Mr. Dean said with his back turned to the class, facing the board as he scribbled variables and numbers with a fading black white board marker that he kept having to shake, and dip in a small cup of water. Alex, short for Alexandra, Lisa and Terrance were starring out the window, Alex was lost in thought, she had been wishing all day that she could escape this tiny, crammed, hot classroom, it was beautiful out and she would have given anything to be out there, with Lisa and Terrance, fooling around in the woods, smelling the decomposing leaves, ducking behind trees, laughing, running, racing, rolling down hills, it was autumn and she should be out enjoying it. In her deep state of thought, she hadn't noticed Terrance whispering her name, until finally he swat he a in the arm and hissed "Alex! Do you see her, do you?"

"What? See who?" Alex hissed back, and glanced at Lisa, she looked frozen, starring out the window.

"The woman! The one walking slowly through the middle of the field."

Alex looked out and saw that Terrance was right, there was a woman walking through the middle of the field, she looked normal to Alex, tall, blonde hair, nothing special. She was about turn to Terrance and tell him that she was just a woman, but then she saw it, as the woman turned and the other half of her body was covered in mud and moss, leaves and tree bark was tangled in her hair but most disturbing was the face, it was cut and bleeding, smeared with mud, her eye sockets had been scrapped literally to the bone the pure white of the bones made Alex sick to her stomach. She turned to Lisa, but she still looked frozen, starring at the decomposing woman, she turned to Terrance with wide eyes.

"Please tell me this is a prank, and if it is, one great projecting and two I hate you, why would you pull a prank like that." He looked at her and she recognized that stare, he was terrified, and she realized that this was no prank, she looked back at the woman and her personality set in, her brave, strong personality that everyone knew her by. She thought about how to handle this, then she heard a sound, her, Lisa and Terrance all turned to see Mr.Dean picking up his marker, they turned back and the woman was gone

"Where'd she she go?" Lisa asked

"Good to see your back, and just in time" Alex smiled

Lisa narrowed her eyes at Alex

"In time for what?" Just at that moment the final bell rang

"To find out where that woman went of course, now c'mon, I have a hunch we should check the woods" she winked at Lisa and Terrance as she shrugged on her sweater and hopped out the class door.
