Thawing The Ice

Set during the Of Drink A-Dreaming event!

Aether was bored out of his mind. It had only been a few days since he had volunteered to be a bartender at their local tavern, Angel's share. He had only done it because he was low on mora, only to find out the pay was piss poor compared to other jobs he had seen. He wanted to quit but his guilt wouldn't let him, Luka had been extremely excited to hear the Honorary Knight himself would be joining their cause and he would feel awful if he left just 3 days after applying. It wasn't just him either, ever since volunteering as a bartender the amount of people that came had significantly increased, turns out Aether was more popular than he thought. The higher the customers the larger the proi\fit, all of which Aether saw none of.

The job itself wasn't very hard, it was actually extremely easy. So easy in fact that he wondered why nobody else had volunteered, probably because of the terrible pay he thought. Aether put his head down on the front down, mentally grunting to himself. He was usually very optimistic about these kinds of things, so he didn't know why he kept thinking so negatively. I mean, it wasn't all bad. He enjoyed seeing some of his old friends again, especially Lisa. His remarkable mixing skills and good looks had actually allowed him to woo some ladies as well, not that he really cared though.

Hours passed with new customers coming in regularly. Aether and Paimon were the only two on duty at the time, so it was up to them to attend to everyone's orders. Somewhere throughout their extremely long shift Aether ended up blacking out through pure exhaustion, taking a nap on the bar. Paimon didn't really mind, her hands although small were quick, meaning she could prepare multiple orders very fast. After an hour or two Paimon decided to wake Aether up, tired of doing all the work.

"Aetherrrrr!" Paimon shouted, ruffling up his hair. Aether shot up instinctively, frantically looking around. "Hey! Hey! Calm down! It's just Paimon!" Aether quickly settled down, his eyes still a bit drowsy. He yawned and stretched, putting two and two together, he realized he must have fallen asleep. "We have lots of customers, so hurry up and help Paimon!"

"Fine..." Aether reluctantly listened, getting up from his stool and walking towards the guests that were in the seating area. He went table by table, repeating the same automatic message that had been hardwired into his brain by the amount of times he had repeated it in the last 2 days alone. "Welcome to Angel's share, what can I get you?"

"Caramel Pinecone."

"Moonlit Alley, extra large."

"Love Poem with extra sugar."

"One small Birch Sap."

"A large juice with extra salt."

God dammit! Aether thought, quickly getting agitated with how many orders were being thrown at him. I mean who the hell asks for extra salt in juice?! Nevertheless he wrote them all down on his notepad, finishing every order in 20 minutes. The juice guy ended up tipping him 20 mora, which partly forgives him of his sins. Only partly.

Only one customer left, he thought, finally at ease. "Welcome to- Eula?!" Aether stammered, surprised to see her in a place like this. Eula was an interesting character to say the least. They had met a few months ago through Amber, and they had become...friends? Frenemies? Acquaintances? Aether didn't really know, she had definitely opened up to Aether a lot more in the past month. She didn't look at him with the same destain and vengeance in her eye like she would before so that's a plus. Aether did somewhat consider her to be a friend, but did not know if she felt the same way.

"A small *hic* foamy reef please *hic* and thank you...~" She stammered, in a very drunken tone.

"Uhm, Eula? Are you ok?" Aether asked.
