Once the last bell rang, Ian jumped out of his navy blue wobbly seat and slipped and slid to the main exit. The main exit was at the end of the main hall with the maroon and white lockers and fluorescent lights beating down on your skin. He couldn't get out of the big, castle-like building any faster and straight to his house to change, then to the big-windowed coffee shop.
Ian's parents would go to Rosemary Cafe every weekend since it was two blocks away from their colonial brick house.
Ian went over everything that can happen once he gets to the coffee shop: Cameron wouldn't like him, she might flake, she might forget about their little coffee hangout, or maybe he took it the wrong way and she was just joking. Ian didn't want to overthink, but thoughts just kept popping into his head that he couldn't shove down.
Once he got home, he ran up his noisy, carpeted stairs and to his white and blue hexagonal room. His room looks like every other teenage boy's room with the plaid bed sheets and the messy desk and dresser with a tv on top of it. He threw his maroon school blazer onto his mountain of clothes. He put on a black t-shirt with The Beatles pasted on the front and put on a blue and black flannel with khakis and white high top converse. He wore his favorite ring with his birthday on it that fit perfectly on his middle finger.
He drove his silver Hyundai Elantra to the coffee shop and ordered an Americano with 2 splenda and 4 creamers. He sat at an elevated table with a cactus plant with a pink flower on the top of it and sat there bored.
While he was waiting, a boy with hazelnut skater hair and blue-green eyes that shine in the sunlight through the window. He was wearing a baggy t-shirt with ripped jeans and black converse that looked like they've been through enough trouble. The boy grabbed his coffee and sat at the table next to him.
It was an awkward few minutes just listening to the coffee maker and the TV playing the 4:30 news. The chair he was sitting in was wobbly and got annoyed so he moved to the seat across the brown square table which was ironically closer to the mysterious boy with skater hair. It was quiet until he heard the boy's throat clear and words start to flow out of his perfectly shaped pink lips.
"Waiting for someone," he said with a little smirk on his face.
"Yeah, I just don't know where she is. I think she might have just flaked or something," Ian said.
"You can wait over here if you want to."
"Okay," Ian said with a smile on his tan face.
Ian moved over to the table where the boy was sitting.
"What's your name?"
"I'm Jason. And you are?"
"Oh right, I'm Ian."
It's been twenty minutes since Ian had moved over to sit by Jason and he feels like he already knows so much about him. He likes to go skateboarding with his 'mates' at nighttime and lived just 5 minutes away from the coffee shop. Jason's voice sounded deep like you would imagine a bulldog's voice would sound like. It was sort of an English-Australian accent with a hint of American. He has tan skin similar to Ian's and a strong jawline you can most likely see from a mile away. He goes to Athens Preparatory School, but they don't see each other anywhere because of how the school is divided. He just transferred this year from Georgetown, Florida.
"So tell me about yourself," said Jason, pushing the hair out of his eyes.
"Well, I've Lived here since-." Ian was interrupted by the sound of the bell hanging above the glass cafe door that chimes every time someone walks in. It was Cameron who walked through the door.
"Hey! Oh my gosh I'm so sorry I'm so late, I had to help my mom make dinner for the homeless shelter down the street because I didn't last week. I completely forgot."
Ian got Jason's number somewhere in the conversation and told Jason that he'll text him later.
"No worries," said Ian with a big bright smile lining his face from ear to ear. Ian sat back at his Cameron truly was the perfect girl. She was wearing high-waisted relaxed fit jeans with black converse and a coffee colored jacket with a white crop top underneath. She had at least one ring on almost every finger and piercings lining her left ear. Her hair was wavy, the perfect beach wave, with a butterfly clip on the left side of her hair.
"Let me just order my coffee and we can sit," she said with a cheerful smile on her face.
They talked and talked about school and life and everything for almost an hour and a half and Ian could've sworn he gained feelings for her even more. But then there was someone else on his mind too; Jason. He didn't know, but he felt a connection between them.
