Snow began to drift down the road - a single snowflake flew swaying down along with the cold breeze of the wind. I watched everything from my large window room. It was dark and the only light emitted was from the frozen lamp post outside which gave a white-yellow shade from the inside.
Everything was filled with snow – the naked trees, the once brown ground, and the pathway leading to the family mansion was now covered with a thick layer of white snow.
The cold season weather sent shivers down my spine as I stood in front of the huge window. Even the steam of my breath was made visible enough for me to see. I cuddled myself with the thick blanket I carried as I look up at the night sky.
One bright star stood out among the gray vast in the sky. It was winking at me. I smiled as I watched it wink at me for the last time before I turned away from the large window and walked towards my bed, placing the duvet around my legs and sitting comfortably, leaning my back against the soft pillows.
I sigh.
I grab the small figurine of an owl and a masculine rabbit with a pocket watch in his hands. These were the two figurines that I found in the attic of my aunt's house last week when we visited. She gave it to me since I found it anyway. She even told me a story about these two – how the rabbit would protect me from harm; the owl, the smart figurine, who also keeps you company. The two were best friends, and my aunt told me that they should never separate because they wouldn't function if the other was not present.
I chuckled at the thought. Though they were stories, it was my aunt's childhood toys, and I respected that. I placed the two figurines back on the bedside table.
I exhaled, shifted my body into the warm duvet, and let sleep overtake me – letting darkness, and warmth from the duvet overfill my senses. Somehow, the last thought I had before sleep took me completely was the rabbit.
Odd.
