It was a bright summer Sunday afternoon. Kalimati Devi, the eldest daughter-in-law of the Sharma clan begins her day with the morning Pooja(prayer).
"Maa maa!," an audible voice of Mithun Sharma, the eldest of the two brothers of Sapna.
"Kya hua beta?"-making a quick turnaround with the pooja thali in her hand. As she sees in his gleaming eyes happiness that rolled into tears.
"Maa mujhe naukri milgayi maa!"
This news spread like wild fire across the district-Ramnagar,Karnataka.Vaibhav Sharma (a proud father of two sons and a daughter),distributed Laddu and other Indian sweets to all relatives and friends. It was a big day of jubilation for the Sharma clan.
Mithun had completed his studies at the Baldwins' Methodist College of Commerce,Bangalore. His placement at the KPMG was a big achievement after all the efforts of hard money put in by his dad. While Karthik was his younger brother in class 10 of an English Medium school was yet to go for further studies outside Ramnagar.
Sapna Sharma, a 5'4" inches tall, wheatish, with beautiful long black hair that covered her entire back was no less than a princess.
Sapna is in 9th grade. She is one of the brightest students of the same English medium school to which Karthik went."Sapna your friend Tabassum has come to see you,go meet her at the verandah!"-called out Kalimati.
Helping grandma in making puri was something Sapna enjoyed doing during the vacation. "I'm going maa!"Tabassum a short, plump, fair and with a mole at the bridge of her nose -is Sapna's best friend.
"Hi Tabu!"(Tabu was what Sapna liked to call her),so glad to see you!"
"Hello! you look quite busy?"
"No,not me. Daadi(Grandma) was making Puri..was helping her out."
Tabassum wore a surprised look on her face which turned to a short smile.
Both buddies sat on the cot in the verandah while Kalimati served them tea with their favorite Parle-G biscuits. So much of talks and giggling, and Karthik was home in his bicycle."Namaste!"As he entered and looked at the two friends.Tabassum blushed a little and lowered her gaze. She is more of an introvert.
"Namaste! Accha Sapna I'll leave, mother would be waiting for me." And she left with a different feeling. Why was Karthik's presence always making her stomach queasy. She wondered and never understood.
