"millie," elira breathes out, visibly exasperated over the girl standing just right next to the shore of a lake. as a fun side bar, there is also a sign, warning people to absolutely not feed the ducks that reside in said lake.
"you can't stop me, elira." millie smirks, mischievous and impish. on her hand is a bag filled with what once was bread, tragically made into bread crumbs by the witch through a little gesture from her wand. if you were to see from elira's perspective, or anyone really, it would've looked like a child playing around with a fork.
elira pinches the bridge of her nose. she loves millie, she swears on it, but only god knows why she does. the dragon cannot go a single day without needing to scold millie over the littlest of things, to situations that would get her killed if not for her, to situations like this .
"i may get arrested just because i touched a goose in this country but can they arrest me for doing the RIGHT thing,"
"millie, you threw rocks at geese. that's like, attempted murder." elira cuts her off. "and i had to pick you up from the police station, remember?!"
"holy shit! shut up, elira." millie rolls her eyes. "also that was around a week ago. pretty long time, in my opinion. people change."
at this point, the dragon has lost all hope as the witch had went on and on about the reason why her feeding the ducks is justified, and righteous . how did elira even end up like this anyway? a question that also passed by the said woman's mind, only to be accompanied with fond memories she has of millie that she holds dear to her heart. elira hates how millie can do that, to just do shit that stresses elira the fuck out, but also enthrall her into loving her a little more each time without fail.
"elira, you're grinning. these ducks are gonna get it and you're grinning." the witch says, as if there's not already a paddling of hungry ducks making a crowd behind her. apparently, she has already thrown out a handful of crumbs into the water at the time elira wasn't paying attention.
"WHAT?!" elira snaps out of.. whatever trance she was in, "MILLIE. OH MY GOD. we have to fucking run!! go, go, go!!!"
the two of them finally takes notice of how much attention they've gathered for themselves, or more like attention to millie. it's not everyday that you could see that much ducks in one area, you know.
panicked, the bag of bread crumbs gets forgotten by the holder. which may have made the situation worse because it fell right into the horde of ducks and now the local police is strutting towards millie.
the witch spewed curses, also enjoying the thrill this kind of moment gave her. meanwhile, elira also spewed curses, not so much having as good of a time as the girl she's currently dragging by the wrist into their car.
"epic car chase, let's fucking go!" millie yells while buckling her seatbelt. elira had to give it her all to not just leave her then and there to the cops. the dragon scoffs a little, as if she can bear living while knowing millie's in prison without her.
"you are so not getting kisses from me tonight," millie gasps audibly, almost sounding like she's more shocked from it than the police cars literally on their tail right now.
"funny joke, elira." the said girl sighs, realizing she's been seen through her cover.
they chat as usual, ignoring the fact that elira's going over the maximum speed and cops following right behind them. it's always like this with the two of them, just in their own little world once they start getting comfortable in their conversation. except, maybe this time, they're doing it almost too literally...
fortunate for them, it's been hours since millie fed those ducks. and the police have given up chasing them thanks to pikl giving elira an eagle's view for the road. now with an exhausted driver and a witch with a growling stomach, they've stopped by at an obscure place for there to be a cave and a beach. there lives selen, elira's sister and finana, selen's lover and elira's close friend.
they sit on the sand, tired and elira heaving. it's not quite dark yet, but the sun is nowhere to be found. maybe it has already set, or just hiding behind pinks and oranges, it does not matter for the two girls currently busy in a fit of laughter.
maybe it's the relief of knowing they got away with the consequences that elira feels this way with millie. maybe she just knows that no one can care for millie like she can take care of her. or maybe it's just because millie looks oh so beautiful, giggling over nothing while the great sun sets. who knew such a simple... such a small, little thing can already make this dragon's heart race faster than the car she drove earlier?
elira hopes millie feels the same way, not only because she longs for her feelings to be reciprocated, but also in spite. she'd be overjoyed if she gets reminded by her one and only that she's also experiencing the same almost painful fluttering of her heart, that she's not the only one suffering from too much love for the other.
"i love you, elira pendora," elira could literally do flips right now from the rush of adrenaline that statement gave her. she grins triumphantly and she almost forgets to give a response, if not for the unamused look millie was having right now.
"oh! uhmm... sheesh," millie breaks down into a fit of laughter once more, angrily slapping elira on the shoulder.
only a little while later that they get spotted by selen who was expecting them. uninvited, by the way, but it's happened too frequently that it has become routine. elira, millie, selen, and finana ate the dinner selen had prepared for the four of them, happily chewing away their food until the older one of the sisters and her own lover had to depart, as it's already been late into the night.
millie finds her spot at the shotgun seat, while pikl and lucie lay behind them and when all is said and done, they fall asleep.
elira is left with a road to focus on with a wheel to steer, and only by then, she properly replies to millie. "i love you, too."
