(Margaret)
Jason Clark had enlisted in army at age 20, and at age 30 he was fighting in WWII, alongside his best friend, and secret crush, Margaret. She is 27, and they've been friends for as long as he could remember.
Margaret was beautiful, with slightly orange hair, and her sharp grey eyes, and that very faint sprinkling of freckles on her face... Jason was daydreaming again and woke with a start when Margaret called his name.
"Jason! Can you not hear the dinner bell?"
Her British accent was incredibly soothing, yet kind of sharp.
   "Jason!"
Her voice shook him out of his dream.
"Uh huh?" He gave her a childish grin, and she frowned.
   "Time for dinner."
He got up and took her hand, teasingly. "Off we go, my queen."
She pulled away. "You are the silliest man ever."
She walked to the mess hall, excepting him to follow. He just watched her walk away, her ponytail swinging and bouncing... He followed her, and picked a puffy dandelion from the grass. The only perfect beauty in the midst of this ugly war. Blowing on it, he wished in his mind.
"I want Margaret to be mine."
He quickly left to the mess hall, and got his food, and sat across from her. Her eyes gleamed as he pulled out some candy, mailed in from his family.
"Jason," her voice dropped to a whisper. "You know better." Yet her eyes were smiling at him, her mouth was frowning. He broke some off, and gave her the bigger half. He leaned back and watched as she nibbled on it.
Maybe he was wrong about the dandelion. Margaret was beautiful. Unfit for the life she has. She belonged somewhere else.
