CHAPTER 3.1

"Rather than just staring at me, how about you stop emitting your pheromones first and then apologize to us?"

Ciel's voice was just as cold as his eyes, which stared at Maverick, who was meeting his eyes with still a nonchalant expression.

"What did you just say?" Maverick asked in his usual cold voice.

Ciel rolled his eyes."So you're not only a selfish and arrogant bastard. You're also deaf—that or you're just plain stupid to comprehend a very simple sentence."

Another set of gasps of disbelief has erupted from the crowd. Even the omegas that were about to leave had stopped and turned to look at Maverick and Ciel, staring at every expression they were making and nervously waiting for what's going to happen next.

It isn't the first time Maverick and Ciel have crossed paths and been at each other's throats.

For some reasons, the little omega, unlike the others who would even want to lick Maverick's foot if given a chance, hated the dominant alpha so much. Although, to be fair, Ciel dislikes the alphas generally. But that dislike just goes so intense when it comes to Maverick that it could hardly be called dislike anymore. It's more like hate. And that is why many of the omegas, most of them being dominant omegas, in their college don't like Ciel. They don't get or understand how a lowly recessive omega like Ciel has the nerve to dislike Maverick, who is a dominant alpha, when Ciel was in the lowest of the chain. They believe that if anything, it should only be Maverick to have the right to hate Ciel for simply being a recessive omega.

They don't even understand how Ciel and Raffy got invited to Andrew's birthday party.

The two were labeled as nerds, unpopular, and losers, which was why everyone was so shocked when they heard the news that morning that Andrew personally invited the two, when most of them were either gatecrashers or a plus-one. And what's making them even more jealous is that Andrew also personally welcomed the two as if they were VIPs, as if he had been waiting for Ciel. And to worsen their jealousy, Ciel also had the chance to talk to Maverick, which most of them could never do, yet the first sentence that came out of his mouth were demeaning words.

"This lowly recessive omega. How dare he say those words to Maverick? Who does he think he is?"

"Does he think his status had changed just because Andrew paid him a little attention?"

"Does he not fear for his life? That's Maverick!"

Ciel heard a lot of comments about him coming from the crowd, but he remained not paying them any attention. He wasn't even giving them a single glance, as he does not give even a single ounce of care about them and how they view him. All he cared about and wanted was to hear Maverick's apology for being an inconsiderate asshole. But Maverick seemed to have no intention to do that.

"That sharp tongue of yours needs to be controlled, little Omega, or it'll get you into trouble one of these days," said Maverick. And Ciel was the only one to hear it, but there was a hint of astonishment in Maverick's voice as he said that, even though his face remained stoic.

"Quite bold of you to speak about control when you can't even control your pheromones, Mr. Alpha," Ciel replied with one of his brows arched, eliciting another collective gasp from the crowd.

Even Raffy, who was quietly standing beside him, tugged his shirt to try stopping him, but he ignored him.

There was no way Ciel would back down to Maverick. Not in that moment and not in his lifetime.

Maverick went quiet after that, and it went on for a couple of minutes, making Ciel feel ecstatic. Making an alpha, especially when it's Maverick, speechless was something he always finds pleasure in.

But the fulfillment and satisfaction Ciel was feeling vanished right away when Maverick's expression turned from being stoic into a taunting one, which did not only surprise Ciel but a lot of people in the crowd as well, including Andrew. And before Ciel could open his mouth to say a word, Maverick took a few steps towards him until there were only a few inches of space in between them.

He then asked in a teasing voice, "Why are you bothered so much about my releasing of pheromones? Is it because you're getting affected by it? Are you somehow... getting extra hot because of my pheromones? Is that the reason why you're so adamant about wanting me to get rid of my pheromones?"

Ciel's eyes widened, and his mouth went hanging. And just like what happened with Maverick, he also got speechless for a while.

Everyone thought the reason why Ciel went speechless was because of Maverick's obvious taunting, but they were wrong—completely wrong.

"I can't believe this," Ciel muttered right away after finding his voice again. "I can't believe that the most popular alpha in our town is this dumb. I mean, isn't it common knowledge that omegas get affected by alpha pheromones? Damn, how did you get into college without knowing such prevalent knowledge?"
