MY STORY IS NOT FINISHED YET - THIS IS JUST PART OF IT, BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK SO FAR. THANK YOU. <3
My train journey home got me into deep thought as to what today has become of. I wish I had taken my car to go shopping, but I never do, as it’s always so busy. I could not get home any quicker, and this train seemed to be going as slow as a flock of clouds on a windless day. I couldn't believe my ears when I got that uplifting phone call. I have finally got the dream job that I've always longed to have since I was a little kid.
"Hi Lucy. Tracey Smith here from 'Tiddlers and Tiny's Adventures'. I thought I would give you a call, to tell you that you have got the job. I thought you were very confident with your words at our interview on Monday, and we are very fond of your experience with writing children's books." The conversation plays over and over in my head like a broken record. I'm smiling to myself like a complete and utter idiot. I look across to this confused-looking woman sitting opposite, she’s staring at me. She probably thinks I’m crazy for smiling to myself... I keep trying to tell myself in my head that it's all real and not a dream. I start work in just three days. I catch my breath a little trying not to let out an immense scream from my insides. I am in complete and utter excitement and disbelief. Nothing good ever really happens to me, and this has most definitely brightened my mood.
My stop is edging closer; the train starts to slow down, as I gather my things and my thoughts together. I can't wait to get home, ring my mum and tell her the news. The excitement intensifies through my body. Everything is going to well after my uncomfortable break up with Rob. This is a new start for me, I just know it.
Stumbling into my flat with all my shopping bags, I rush to the kitchen to get the house phone, letting my bags drop carelessly and haphazardly to the floor. I dial '1' into the keypad for the use of quick dial to ring my mum. My knees are shaking in glee, as I jump up and down in the kitchen as though I’m five again. The ringing tone feels like it's going on forever as it echoes my ear. My inner goddess is saying 'PICK UP THE PHONE MUM!!!' And she's screaming in sheer delight. My mum finally answers with her sweet, mellow voice.
“I GOT THE JOB MUM!” I scream, clasping my hand in my hair with my left hand, while I hold the phone in my right. I squint my eyes, smiling my biggest smile.
My mum squeals in excitement for me, and says “Oh, my darling! I am so proud of you! When did you find out?”
“I found out on my way home from shopping. Oh, Mum. I feel complete!” My voice still exaggeratedly cheerful.
“Oh honey, who would have thought it. 22 years of age, and you will be soon writing your own books for children. I am so proud of you Lulu. You must come round tomorrow to celebrate, we shall crack open the most expensive Rosè I can find in the cellar!” Her voice comforting and delighted.
“I start on Wednesday. Can you ring Tim and tell him for me? I want him to be there tomorrow when we celebrate.”
“Of course I will Sweetie. I will see you tomorrow, around 3PM if that's okay? I'll tell Tim to be there. Him being your big brother, you know he won't let you down.” She adds.
“That'll be fab Mum, I'll see you tomorrow. I love you.”
“And you too sweetheart... Oh, and congratulations again Lulu...”
“Thank you, bye Mum.”
I press the 'end' button on the phone, and hold it to my pouting lips and kiss it sending a non-existent kiss through to my mum, even though she wouldn’t know about it and would be completely oblivious. Mum has always called me LuLu, ever since my childhood times. My heart warms and smiles at the thought.
