POV: Serenity Jayde
June 12th
2 years ago"Just get out!" Joseph howled. I don't know what I ever did to make him act this way, we were just sitting in silence while the ambiance of the TV echoes through the room. Now here we are, not even two minutes later getting physical. Out of my excessive fright I dart for the door. Hoping I can get out of his room and get outside and call Lillie to get me away from here. Far, far away.
As soon as I begin to scurry towards the nearest egress, I can feel that Joseph is acknowledging my action, my hunger for freedom and amnesty. Not even thinking about anything besides escaping I press myself into it, immediately realizing it's still locked from when Joseph shoved me in here and attempted to smother me with the sheets of his duvet after I was forced out from the lounge.
With what I can see through my tears I struggle to unlock the lock. Out of the corner of my foggy eyes I see Joseph ready with a tall lamp to fling at me any second. I fall through the door as it unlatches, hearing the beacon shatter against the heavy birch.
My phone immediately flies out of my hoodie pocket, slamming on the floor with me. With all of the strength I have left I crawl towards it, grabbing it with my bloody, shaky hands. Gathering myself together quickly I map out my plan.
Though my vision is still quite blurry, I can make out the shape of the door to my freedom.
With my phone in my tight grip I take one last look behind me, locking eyes with Joseph who's about ready to pounce at any second. Saying a silent prayer I prepare for my escape, my hopeful freedom. For the first time in four years, I'm finally going to be free.
It's not like I haven't had other chances to get away, I definitely have. Tonight is the first night I've ever had the courage to actually escape this hell-hole.
Locking eyes with the door I press off the ligneous ground, getting a nasty splinter from the old floorboards. Ignoring the pain I continue to race towards the gateway to my forever freedom, Joseph catches up right behind me.
My hand touches the door knob just as he grabs my hood to yank me back, but i'm too fast for him to keep a good grip. I whip open the exit and scurry to the road. I open my ravaged phone to call Lillie to pick me up, while the rain pelts my back and shards of broken glass cut my fingers.
Pressing the phone to my ear continuing to hurry down the lonely street, I ignore all of the gunshots being fired by Joseph in my direction. Tears still fall from my aching eyes, making running view even harder.
I see Lillie's car drive up in front of me, I sprint as fast as I can to her door before a sudden burning pain becomes presents in my shoulder. Immediately I slam into the ground, not being able to move. I can hear Lillie exclaiming my name repeatedly, but I can't seem to respond. What has happened to me?
