My New Distraction

I wake up to the sound of rain pattering incessantly on the window of my apartment. I throw on a comfy outfit and poke my head into both Haylee and Lauren's rooms. Neither of them are there. As I head down the stairs to get some breakfast I hear a soft rumbling. I walk into the kitchen and Lauren chirps,
"Sup roomie."

I reply with a simple "meh."

"Still can't sleep?" They ask simultaneously. They are my best friends. No one knows me as well as they do. "We would have woken you up with us but since you haven't been able to get Chace off your mind lately, we figured it would be better just to let you sleep."

"Thanks" I smile. Not many things can cheer me up when I'm this way but somehow they can. I put my long brown hair up into a messy bun, grab my wallet and and bag, the smoothie Haylee hands me and I head out the door. My morning goes on slowly, but it's rather nice. I spend a couple hours sipping my smoothie and reading in my favorite little bookstore when I decide I should probably head back to see what the girls have planned for this afternoon. The day is muggy and gray. Much like my mood. I need to get my mind off him. But how? The books helped but walking back, I have nothing to occupy my mind. I step out of the old double wooden doors and suddenly a car speeds by me sending pellets of water straight into me. Great. I hear a deep voice, "need some help?" I turn and my jaw drops, I think I just found my way to get my mind off Chace.

〰*〰*〰

"Stupid car. You look cold, need some help?" He repeats.

I stand there gaping at him until I realize he was asking me a question.

"Oh... Uhh... Ya I guess... Er" I stutter. He smiles and laughs tossing his messy dark brown hair out of his eyes and revealing the most gorgeous, deep, mysterious, and caring bown eyes. And his laugh, oh it's amazing. He has this adorable smile and perfect teeth, what is he doing talking to me?

"Here take my jacket, I know a place to take you to get warm."

Instinctively I've always wanted to do this exact thing but I just met this guy?

"Ummm... Thank you but uh..."

"Oh excuse me, I'm Dylan. Cmon, I know it's weird for you, but I like you. Just give me a chance and later you can decide if I'm a creep or not."

Even I had to laugh at that. "Okay."

He smiles. I almost melt into the puddle I'm standing in. He hands me his jacket *adorable* and we make small talk on the way to wherever we are going, and we get to know each other better. Everything is happening so fast right now, Dylan is being so forward and honest about everything, I really like it. We walk up to a small cozy cafe and sit down. It just happens to be my favorite cafe in the city. I order a Carmel frappe and I go up to pay but the barista said its already been payed for. Dylan is sitting casually in a booth and he smiles at me. I roll my eyes.

"Thanks" I say to the barista, then walk to my seat.

"You didn't get anything? I ask Dylan. He pulls out a flower. Woah.

"Oh um. Thanks. Dylan, this has been really nice but kinda fast for me, I really appreciate it but I think I should go." I head for the door.

"Wait!" I hear behind me. I turn around.

"Maya. The only reason I've gone so fast is that I've missed a great opportunity like this before. When I saw you, I didn't want to miss my chance again. I promise I'll slow down now that I've gotten to at least talk to you. I really like you."

I could see his explanation was genuine, and hey, I really liked him too. Why was I running away like this? I must be scared. "Okay" I reply.

"Let me drive you home, you still look cold." He didn't even let me respond before putting his muscular arm around me and walking me outside to his car. I wouldn't do this with anyone else, but somehow I know I can trust him. Even after two hours. We drive back in silence for the most part, the silence only broken my me telling him the directions. We get to my house and I thank him, walk up the steps to my apartment, open the door, and slump down on my couch. I did my phone out of my bag and see a sticky note with a number on it. Haha very funny Dylan. I text him anyway,

Thanks for everything.

I out my phone away and go upstairs to watch a movie with Haylee and Lauren. Then, I doze off.
