Sleepover Insomnia

Hello. It's been a while.

Sorry for taking long! I was out of ideas for a while, and I wanted to get a brand new chapter before posting old ones I haven't posted before. I'm trying to post more chill and slow paced one shots rather than dumping emotional content one after the other. Because all my old one shots are sob stories.

This chapter I've been writing for quite some time. It ended up longer than I wanted to. And I still have not finished. Because of that, I'll probably work on a second part some other day. You guys can have the first part for now.

Anyway, enjoy the story!

- Young Kirell -

I tossed around in my sleeping bag, sleepless. I sat down, and watched the room around me, where people about my age slept quietly in sleeping bags. It was a normal, quiet sleepover night, but for some as insomniac as me, a sleepover couldn't be possible.

I got up. Certainly there was no way I could sleep like that. The best way I could spend my time is to do something else.

I tiptoed my way to the door, avoiding all the sleeping people around, silently. When I opened the door, I stared at the dark corridor. I closed the door, and walked around to find where to turn on the light switch.

I managed to find it, and was able to turn it on. I quietly walked my way to the kitchen, and turned on the lights back there as well. I kept looking around, wondering what to do next.

"I feel a bit hungry. They wouldn't mind if I sneaked out some snacks."

I looked around, but didn't find anything of my taste. So I decided to open the freezer and found a pot of ice cream. I was sure that this was going to be shared the next day, or certainly, when they woke up.

Watched over my back one time, and then grabbed the ice cream pot. I took a spoon, and started eating directly from the pot. I didn't want to leave many traces that someone had stolen ice cream overnight. When I'm done, I'll just put back the pot and wash the spoon, before sneakily making my way back.

I was about to turn around to go to the living room, but a voice caught me off guard.

- ...What are you doing?

I turned my head around, but not moving an inch of my body while my spoon was in my mouth. I could say my face was a mix of embarrassment and surprise. It wasn't a pleasing situation.

The shy girl behind me rubbed her eyes, a bit scared - I-I'm sorry… I didn't mean to bother you… I just had a nightmare.

I just stared at her, in silence. The atmosphere felt quite uncomfortable as we stood there looking at each other. I expected her to ditch me and tell the others about the ice cream thief, but she just stood there.

She broke the silence awkwardly - Ahh… sorry… I'll… I'll go to the living room. I'll try to-to sleep there. Don't mind me…

She turned around embarrassed, and walked over to the living room. I just watched her, then looked back at my ice cream pot. The surprise felt so big that I didn't feel like eating it anymore.

I put it back then washed my spoon. I sighed, as of course, I couldn't have a peaceful night. I walked out to the corridor again. But before I went back to the bedroom, for some reason, I decided to check on the strange girl that saw me. So I sneaked to the living room.

I stood behind the sofa, then raised my head to see if she was sleeping. She was just there laying down, hugging a pillow. But her legs were uncomfortably moving around as she tried to go back to sleep. I guess I wasn't the only one having trouble sleeping.
