Magic, under normal circumstances, is considered impossible. It is not possible to make an object float without the use of wires. It is not possible to change someone's appearance in the span of five seconds unless you're using fire to blowtorch their face off. And it is certainly not possible to wake up to your alarm clock shouting profanities to you unless you're drugged out of your mind. Skyler Dygana was not drugged out of her mind but that was still how she woke up. And as a general rule, Skyler often witnessed and performed the impossible.

The profanity spewing alarm clock was not part of her usual routine though. That part was due to an unbearably annoying older brother who was home for the summer. Eleven-year-old Skyler groaned as she pulled her pillow over her head to block out the noise. Not only was the alarm clock screaming, but the familiar clatter of mornings could be heard below.

"Skyler, shut off that alarm clock and get down here!" her mother yelled upstairs. Skyler let out another big groan of annoyance as she slammed the alarm clock down on her bedside table. It stopped its shouting, though Skyler was sure that it would presume so tomorrow morning. Damn you Jake, she thought angrily as she rolled out of bed.

The smell of food that wafted in from the kitchen woke her up more as Skyler made her way to the window. She threw it open to reveal Diagon Alley, already busy and brewing with customers. Skyler spent a few seconds watching all the people below, waving to familiar faces when they saw her. It was only after the third time her mother shouted that she went downstairs.

Their house was not big, if you could even call it a house. In all honesty, it was a five room flat above the family's shop. Dygana's Dwelling of Dragons was the number one dragon shop in the world. They had things made of dragons, things made for dragons, books on dragons, they had everything dragon related that you could think of except for actual dragons of course.

"Skyler, Jake had to go the Ministry to deal with some legal nonsense so you'll be helping in the shop this morning," her mother, Amilia told her when Skyler entered the kitchen. Usually Skyler would have argued, complained, huffed, puffed, and groaned, but today was not a usual day. A week ago Skyler had received her Hogwarts letter, the letter that officially enrolled her into the best magic school in all of Britain, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Now Skyler was working as hard as she could to get her mother to buy her a pet to take along for the journey. All Amilia had said was, "We'll see," but Skyler wasn't going to take any chance by refusing the help in the shop.

"Alright, what do I have to do?" Skyler asked her mother who smiled pleasantly at her, obviously aware of the cause of her daughter's unusually willing attitude.

"I'll mostly be in the back unloading the deliveries that came in last night so you'll be manning the store," Amilia told her. Skyler let out a tiny sigh, only slightly annoyed by the fact that she'd have to be dealing with people. Other people weren't the problem, it was usually her. Over the years, Skyler had learned that most customers don't appreciate help from a snarky eleven year old.

"Why can't I unload the deliveries?" Skyler questioned, trying her best to keep the dreaded whining out of her voice. Whining was a one way ticket to an angry Amilia.

"Because all of them are either dangerous or fragile," Amilia told her in a firm voice. "Now eat up because we open in half an hour." She placed a plate of eggs and bacon on the table. Skyler sat down, grabbing a fork. She started to gulf down her food, loving her mom's homemade food. The taste of scrambled eggs and crispy bacon always woke her right up and soon she was done in only a few minutes.

She dumped her plate and silverware into the sink before running downstairs to the shop. Skyler barely heard her mother's shout of "NO RUNNING" behind her. The stairs led down into the back room of the shop which was filled with boxes of all sorts and sizes. She didn't even glance in their direction instead going through a door on the other side of the room.
