I have known that we was going to be moving houses for the past month and I still wasn't ready to leave behind the life I had here. Every time we move I always think that I should be used to it by now because in the past two years alone we have moved houses three times. I wasn't. Mum and Dad try to make it easier on me and my little sister Arya but I think it affects her more than me. Arya has just turned nine so she doesn't really understand why she has to leave her friends. She was crying the whole time Mum tried to get her into the car, she had worked herself up so much that when the car started moving she just fell asleep.
Which meant I could listen to music in my headphones without her interrupting every five minutes. The house we were moving to is a two hour drive away in a different town. That meant a fresh start completely. I think that's why it was so hard to move this time, when we have moved houses before we had never left town. It had always just been a different part of town. That meant I could still go out to see my friends but now I'm two hours away from them.
The house we have moved into has a dark red roof and lagoon blue walls, as well as mahogany wooden windows, I can already tell that on sunny days, mum will have them wide open. The window in the living room faces the street where there are more houses just like this one. The house only has three bedrooms, the living room, the kitchen, and two bathrooms (one upstairs and one downstairs). However, all rooms except for one bedroom is filled with natural light. There is a door that leads from the kitchen to the back garden, maybe we can have the opportunity to have a dinner outside when we have settled in and the weather is nice and hot, maybe even have a family BBQ. There is also a small shed at the back of the garden which I'm pretty sure Dad will claim for himself.
I can see it all now dad setting up his office in there so he can get away from the three woman in his life and have somewhere private to work. Honestly it's a beautiful home and I hope that this is the fresh start we need.
"Violet can you help me make my bed please, mummy said to ask you because mummy and daddy are starting to sort out dinner." Arya asked while she darted around my room like a lighting bolt. "Of course I can Arya." If you can't tell my mum and dad are Game of thrones fans, which is why she has a paint of a massive dire wolf in her bed room. As we was leaving my room mum shouted for me to go to the kitchen.
"Violet would you be able to take Arya to town tomorrow to get school supplies? Your dad and I need to work tomorrow." Mum said like it was a question but it was more of a polite demand. "Sure mum but are you going to be home for dinner or do I need to sort that out?" Mum works as a nurse and dad has his own business. " well I'm going to be working but your dad will be here so he can cook dinner can't you hunny?"
"Yes love I can cook dinner" Agreed dad while not even looking at us. Dad spends most of this time on his laptop talking to clients. He doesn't really have time for me and Arya but that's okay, he makes the money for us to have nice things. The only problem is that I spend most of my time looking after Arya when they aren't here. I like to spend time with her but I would like the freedom to be a teenager also.
"So Dad what do you think of the garden? I think we should have a house warming BBQ out there. It would be nice" I tried to ask dad but he wasn't really paying attention so mum replied instead " that would be a lovely thing to do, you can make your cola chicken wings for it Violet." Mum thinks I should get a job as a chef because I can cook but I don't want to work in a restaurant. It's terrible hours. I want to travel the world. Then when I have finished that, I want to become a teacher.
" Sure mum, me and Arya will make some this weekend for it." I didn't bother trying to talk to dad about the BBQ, instead I just went to Arya's room to make her bed for her.
Her room was much more brighter than mine, even with the dire wolf on her wall. She has a tree house bed frame and a seat swing in the corner. But even with all that in her room she spends most of her time in my room, which is completely different to hers. I have a much darker room, mostly dark purple. But I think she just likes to be close to me.
After I finished making her bed, I went to my room to get my phone off charger. I saw I had a text from my friend Lily, asking about the new house. I quickly replied and went downstairs to see what's for dinner. Arya was already sat at the table when I got downstairs. Mum had just ordered pizza for dinner as we spent all day moving in and putting everything in its place.
Usually we have home cooked meals, mum and dad would spend hours making different meals every night for us to try. Recently though that hasn't been happening. Mum spends more and more time doing extra shifts at the hospital and dad spends his time on his laptop or phone. It's like they don't even get along anymore. I used to think nothing would come between them being like that but now I'm not to sure. Another thing that has changed is that we used to never have phones at the table. Dinner time was always family time but not dads phone is constantly going off and he always answers straight away even at the table. I could just be overthinking but it just seems odd.
After dinner I told mum I would help with Arya so she could get ready for work tomorrow. So I went and ran Arya a bath and got her some pyjamas. " Violet when we go to town tomorrow can we get some ice cream?" Arya asked while looking at me with puppy eyes. I could never refuse when she pulls that face. "Of course we can, I'll tell you what if you get in the bath, brush your hair and teeth and get ready for bed with no issues I will take you out for lunch and get ice cream too. Sound like a deal?"
" Yes" Arya scream while getting her towel to bring into the bathroom. I couldn't help but laugh at how excited she was. Arya and I have always been close, we have a better relationship than what Arya or I have with our parents because they are always so busy. It's like I'm her second mum as well as her sister. I take her to school and pick her up. I spend time with her and make sure she all her care needs are met while mum and dad are at work. I'm there when she falls down and when she has her triumphs. Sometimes I feel like mum resents the relationship I have with Arya but if she didn't keep taking extra shifts at work she would be here to do things with her.
After her bath, Arya got ready for bed with out any problems and was sound asleep within minutes of her head hitting the pillow, so I decided to go see what mum and dad was watching downstairs. When I got down stairs dad wasn't say watching tv with mum and I couldn't actually see him anywhere.
"Hey mum where's dad? I thought you would be watching tv?"
"He had to take a phone call in the shed" mum kinda huffed out. I knew he would claim the shed as his own. "Is everything okay mum? You guys seem different" mum looked like she was holding back tears for a second, then she plastered on a smile and said " oh no dear everything is fine, just the stress of moving."I don't know why I just had this gut feeling that something wasn't right. That really this was the beginning of the end. But I left the conversation at that and went to get into bed. I knew tomorrow was going to be a long day.
