It had always been there, for all of eternity, it had just been waiting for something to trigger it.
And trigger it we did.

It all happened so quickly.

Noone had time to prepare.

There were reports of an earthquake in the southeast, in the heart of the Kingdom of the Forests.

This kingdom was important to the entire continent, as it supplied most of the wood and lumber because of its truly giant forests.

Those giant forests held giant trees.

And those giant trees grew extremely quickly.

People were worried about if the wood supply would go down because of the earthquake

It was one of the most important kingdoms in the continent.

And nobody knew why it was suddenly changed in 6 months time.

Survivors soon streamed out of the Kingdom, marked with odd spots of black and some with large bite marks taken out of them.

The ones with bites died soon after they were bitten, and the black marks were permanent like scars.

When questioned, the survivors only sobbed and sobbed but did not tell their story.

Not a single word of what happened would pass their lips, not a single letter written down.

Nothing would persuade them and they tried everything to get them to speak.

Threats were told.
Money was given.
Safety was proven.
Food was eaten.

Yet asolutely nothing was said.

It was like they were so scared, so traumatized by what they saw, they feared speaking of it.

Like it would make it all happen all over again if they did.

The survivors stopped leaving the Kingdom after two months.

Not a single soul left afterwards and not a single soul was seen.

Until the reports started stacking, all saying the same thing in the same place.

Grass turned black and felt like sharp rocks if stepped on, said one.

Leaves turned an eerie neon blue that glowed even in the darkest of nights, said another.

Vines would move of their own accord, said a third.

Tree branches would swoop down and knock one away, the latest one said.

It was like nature was coming alive.

Changing.

Corrupting.

And it was only in the Kingdom of Forests where the reports were stated, where the abundance of nature was greater then anywhere else.

Within six months, the Kingdom was bare and without a sign of life besides the strange looking nature.

No animals, not even a mouse.

No insects, not even a fly.

No people, not even a bone.

No monsters, not even a piece of fur.

No threats, besides the eerieness of it all.

Or so they thought.
