One sorrowful evening, in the middle of nowhere. There was a girl named Charlotte Wilson, she was the daughter of the town's wealthiest doctor, Mr. John Wilson, and Mrs. Lala Wilson. She was an only child to some very smart and sophisticated parents. She had just lost her mother in a car accident a few days back, leaving her father in a great depression. Still, with the grief of her mother, she closed everyone out of her life including Ember; the only other person in her life, that happened to be her best friend. Ember was a mysterious girl that lived next to Charlotte's Large Home in a Small Cabin. Charlotte and Ember became fast friends when Ember first moved into the Small Cabin that her parents had gotten from her late grandmother. Ember didn't have any friends and Charlotte made it her mission to become her best friend. After a few years, they became inseparable, creating a bond that could never be broken.
Charlotte's house was sad and depressing. The sadness could be seen from a mile away. And no matter how hard anybody in the neighborhood tried, Charlotte and her father never came out of their house. There were no more smiles, no more laughs, it was just blank. Ember came over as often as possible trying to do anything to cheer up the two, but it never worked. The more Ember tried the angrier Charlotte's father got creating a separation between her and the Wilson household. The random visits would always cheer up Charlotte just a little, but they could never really stay inside Wilson's Home because of the separation from Charlotte's father.
As Charlotte was walking down from her room, she heard a loud crash from inside the kitchen. Slowly walking towards the sound, she felt shivers running down her back. When finally turned the corner, she saw her father standing over a smashed colorful plate on the floor and a crying Maid in the corner of the room. Ever since Charlotte's Mom died her father seemed to change in a bad way.
"I said I wanted white plates, not colorful ones. This isn't a party, it's a funeral!" Mr. Wilson Steamed
"But Mr. Wilson Lala would want colors, she never liked black and white," the Maid said, trying to keep things civil.
"Don't you dare mention her name, it is Mrs. Wilson to you, not Lala" Mr. Wilson said in an angrier voice than before.
Charlotte never liked fighting; it was the one thing that Charlotte's mother would never do. No matter how mad she was, she would always be calm about anything anyone said. It's like Mrs. Wilson would always keep Mr. Wilson calm and collected. That's really about what made their family so amazing and now that Mrs. Wilson passed, it's like a train colliding into their perfect world. Charlotte didn't want any more fighting to happen so she pretended to be getting a glass of water hoping that her presence would calm down her father. Continuing to walk around the corner and getting a class starting, to fill it up both the Maid and her father looked at her.
"You are dismissed." Mr. Wilson said in a Harsh tone.
As the Maid walked into the other room leaving a very angry Mr. Wilson and Charlotte alone together. As Charlotte slowly turned around with her glass of water, she and Mr. Wilson's eyes met.
"I told you not to snoop in other people's business," Mr. Wilson said slowly moving to pick up another plate but ended up stepping into the broken glass on the floor.
"I wasn't Father I was just getting a glass of water," Charlotte said as calmly as possible.
"Don't lie to me, I know your secret," Mr. Wilson said, starting to get angrier.
"You don't know anything, you never have, and you never will!"
"You don't speak to your father that way, young lady."
"Well maybe if you didn't speak to your daughter like that, she wouldn't do it back," Charlotte said, stomping out of the Kitchen nearly spilling her glass of water.
"Why is he always yelling? Like he never used to yell when mom was alive. I hate him, why does he have to always yell at me and everyone around him" Charlotte thought.
Time after time Charlotte's father yelled at her. As Charlotte marched her way upstairs, she heard yet another plate break and a door slam, but she didn't care enough to go check to make sure everything was ok. She was tired of being the punching bag. Just because her mother died doesn't mean that she isn't grieving too. As Charlotte made her way back upstairs, she went into her room. She got her backpack from under her bed and started putting clothes and essential things in it. She then pulled out her phone and read the time 9:34. "Perfect" Charlotte thought as she zipped up her backpack. She then grabbed her backpack, putting it on the ground next to the window. Charlotte undid the latch on the window, grabbed the backpack, and slowly slid through the window shimming her way down the side of the house. Once her feet landed on the soft ground, she closed the window and started walking to the other side of the house where her bike was. She angrily got on the bike and started pedaling to Ember's house.
Once Charlotte got to Ember's one-story house, she slowly pulled up to the side of the cabin next to Ember's bedroom window. She gently knocked on it a few times before it opened. Once it opened, a tired Ember was looking back at Charlotte.
"Charlotte, you scared me. What do you want? It's ten at night." Ember says looking at Charlotte dumbfounded.
"Can I stay at your house for the night? My dad was yelling again." Charlotte said in a sad voice.
"Well of course you can stay but if you would like to get your mind off of everything we could ride our bikes over to the train station and take a small trip?"
"You know, I would like that a lot."
"Let me get dressed and we will head over there. I think the next train leaves at 11:00 pm."
"Ok."
