CHAPTER TWELVE

Ivan woke up at four-thirty in the morning but it's already six am and he hasn't stood up and prepared for school yet.

He's been thinking about what Harold sent last night. After a few minutes of staring at the ceiling, he finally stood up, made his bed, took a shower, and changed to his uniform. After preparing himself for school, Ivan went downstairs for breakfast.

Bumungad sa kaniya ang ina na katatapos lang i-prepare ang breakfast nila.

He kissed his mom on the cheeks and greeted her. "Good morning to the most beautiful mother in the world."

"Sus binola mo pa ako. Good morning also sa pinaka-sweet na anak sa buong mundo. Take your seat na so we can eat breakfast. And para mahatid ka na ni Mang Karding sa school." His mother said.

Mang Karding is their driver mula pa noong dito pa sila nakatira sa Manila. Pinagkakatiwalaan ito ng pamilya nila dahil siya rin ang driver ng Mom niya nung siya pa ay nag-aaral.

"Okay, Mom." He answered. "By the way, 'asan si Dad? Did he leave early?" Ivan asked because his Dad usually flies to another country for business every after their family trip.

"Yes, he flew to Mexico kaninang 3 am, but he did leave me your black card kasi he won't be home for the next 2 months because of an important project there. Use this card wisely kung hindi I'll confiscate that." Napatayo naman si Ivan sa sobrang tuwa, he kissed his mother multiple times on her cheeks while saying 'thank you'.

"Oh before I forget, Mom you have to sign this consent form. It's for our class trip to Tagaytay tomorrow." Ivan said and gave his mother the form.

"Tagaytay? Anong gagamitin niyong sasakyan papunta roon? If you're commuting, hindi ako papayag." His mother questioned.

"We'll be using the school bus Mom, relax." He answered.

"Okay then." Then she signed the form. "Just make sure na hindi ka hihiwalay kay Harold. Sasabihan ko siya na bantayan ka the whole trip." His mother could be overdramatic sometimes but what can he do? He loves her.

"Mom!! Huwag na nating abalahin si Harold, okay? I can take care of myself just fine." Pagkukumbinsi ni Ivan sa Ina.

"Okay then, eat your breakfast na baka ma-late ka sa school." He ate his breakfast and kissed his mom goodbye before leaving.

It was already 7:30 when Ivan arrived at the academy. He is sitting awkwardly next to Harold who's looking at him for quite some time now. A few minutes later dumating na ang adviser nila with an announcement.

"Good morning students. To those who have the consent from your parents to join the trip tomorrow, please give me your consent forms." One by one, they gave their consent forms to their adviser's.

"I will pair you up for an activity na gagawin natin sa fieldtrip. Your pair will serve as your partner for the whole trip, it's a chance for you to get to know each other better and para na rin sa experience, lalo pa all of you are graduating na." The teacher paused for a minute to finish collecting the consent forms.

"Okay, that's the last of it. You have a five-minute break while I pair you up, but please minimize your voices." then the teacher sat down.

While the teacher was busy, lumapit naman sila Lucy, Aliyah, Shane, at Kate sa upuan ni Ivan.

"Sana partner tayo, Ivan." Kate said.

"No, kung may magiging partner man si Ivan, ako yun." Lucy said.

"Alam niyo umuwi nalang kayo, kasi alam naman nating lahat na mas bagay kaming partner ni Ivan." Shane said.

At habang busy ang tatlo sa pagtatalo kung sino ang dapat maging pair ni Ivan, nilapitan naman ni Aliyah si Harold at sinabi na, "Sana partner tayo, Harold. Just like old times."

Humarap naman si Harold sa kaniya at sinagot si Aliyah. "I don't think so, I have my eyes on someone else. And please don't reminisce the past because wala nga akong maalalang event na kasama kita." And went back to sleep.

Bumalik naman si Aliyah sa pwesto ni Ivan at parang iiyak na ito. "Are you okay?" Ivan asked her. Hindi niya alam kung bakit pero somehow he felt relieved na malaman na ayaw ni Harold na makapareha ito.

"I'm fine, Ivan. Thanks for asking." Sagot nito at mapait na ngumiti.

"Attention students!" Their adviser called their attention.

Maybe it's time to announce the pairs. Ivan thought.

"I will now announce kung sino ang mag-pair para sa trip natin bukas." She said. In their section, there is a total of 36 students, and it's down to the last three pairs. "Ramirez and Guzman."

Napangiwi naman ang labi nina Lucy at Kate, at napangisi naman si Shane. "Sabi na eh, kami ni Ivan ang para sa isa't-isa." Sabi ni Shane habang nakangising nakatangin sa dalawa.

"Alvarez and..." Hinihintay ni Shane na apilyido ni Ivan ang sunod na sasambitin ng guro ngunit hindi pabor sa kaniya ang tadhana. "Lim." Dahil apelyido ni Aliyah ang nasambit ng guro. "And for the last pair we have..." Namuti si Ivan dahil alam na niya kung sino ang partner niya.

"Montefalco and Garcia."
