It was nearly seven in the morning, which meant we had about an hour and a half to eat and get ready before making our way to the procuring. I willed myself to get up off the couch, but I just didn't want to. I lay there, looking at Phoenix, who was nearly half back to sleep. I wanted to lay like this forever. Ok that was a lie...but I wanted this moment to last longer than it could. It was time, and I had to accept that.
I continued to stare at Phoenix and pushed on his shoulder, to which I got no response. I pushed him again, back and forth until he opened his eyes in a near rage.
"What the fuck Nali?" His voice was sleepy, raspy.
"It's time to get up. We need to eat some food and you need to shower. We have to look our best today. This is the first day of the rest of our lives." I smiled through the heavy feeling in my chest. A combination of nerves and sadness. I already missed him.
"I need to shower? Honey, you should look in a mirror before insulting me. You look like the devil had his way with you last night."
"Interesting, being that you were the only man that slept next to me last night." I raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"Nali, we both know I'm saving myself." The words came out of his mouth dripping with sarcasm. We both couldn't help but laugh at his stupid comment.
"Though I would respect the hell out of you if there was an ounce of truth in that, I'm afraid you've been a little too honest with me about your previous escapades."
Phoenix began to hoist himself up into a sitting position on the couch. "Escapades? Nali, I'm an angel. I don't know what you're talking about." He stared at me, giving me a sweet smile. He rolled his eyes back, "Alright, we really should get up. I call the shower first! One of us has to look good here. Go make yourself useful and get breakfast started darling."
"Honestly, you are lucky you actually have to look decent today, otherwise I would beat your ass!" I said while attempting to get myself out of the sinking couch cushions.
"Ass? You mean this ass?" I turned my head to see Phoenix pulling down his pants to moon me outside of the bathroom door.
"Gross! What the heck!"
He laughed, shimmied his way into the bathroom, and shut the door. I heard the squeak of the creaky shower knob as he turned it.
As annoying as he was, I knew I would miss it. I would miss him. I guess I could make him some breakfast, even though his smart mouth didn't deserve it. All I had was three pieces of toast and some eggs. French toast I suppose? I'll leave Slater the leftover piece in the fridge for later.
I had just finished up the toast when Phoenix walked into the kitchen half naked, covered with a towel. "Oh, two slices of french toast just for me? You outdid yourself Nali."
"Actually, you get one piece. I will take the other and I'm leaving the last piece in the fridge for Slater."
"Ugh, why do you always have to think of everyone else?"
"Why do you have to walk around my house half naked? And before you even think about it, do not drop the towel!
He smirked, "It's almost like you know me. And who cares? No one can see us!"
"Wow, so weird. I wonder why everyone thinks that we could be an item. Baffling." I took a seat at the table and passed Phoenix his plate.
"Yeah it's super baffling since I'm a raging invert. People are just idiots."
I nearly choked on my toast. "Geeze Phoenix, don't say it that loud." I whispered.
"Calm down girl." he growled while stuffing his face with the toast. "No one knows. I would have been hanged by now if they did."
