Caylee's POV

Life isn't fair.

It never was.

But I was glad I had enhanced senses.

Over these years, the power I had helped me miss a lot of pain.

But the power I had made my pain a lot worse.

I really hate how I could hear a lot of things from far away.

Especially when you don't want to hear them.

My mum, my freaking mum, mentally abuses me. Not just once. It's been so much per day, and it has been for years.

I was glad that I ran away despite leaving some good memories behind. But only some.

I put on my earphones and blasted Beautiful Mistakes.

"It's beautiful, it's bittersweet

You're like a broken home to me..."

Music makes me forget everything bad. Mostly.

I took out a pencil and started sketching the time I had in here.

So far, the people here haven't been too bad. None had been bullies, and that reassured me. I always preferred being alone. People look nice but you never know the inside.

For example, Jewel. She's too perfect. She looked beautiful, acted beautiful... I couldn't help but be skeptical and even jealous. Her life was probably never tainted.

I even liked some of the people, Neo Storm seemed okay. I would like to talk to him, maybe befriend him? He seemed down to earth yet powerful.

I let my hand take control of me. It swiftly hovered over the paper, dragging the pencil along. It smelled like fresh parchment and ink.

Then I realized I was drawing me.

With a bright smile on my face that could compete with the sun.

And seeing the picture made me smile too.

A genuine smile, the first in a lot of years.

Actually I don't think I have ever smiled like that before. Everyone who knows me well knows that I never smile. And when I smile it's just a forced one.

It's common sense. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and Caylee doesn't smile.

And that fact changed today.

Jewel's POV

After lunch, the amazing meal of the all-you-can-eat buffet, I went to find people to talk to, since some of them back at the table seemed pretty nice.

"Hey, nice to meet you! Your name is Artemis, right? Nice tuxedo!"

The hot guy with the tux, Artemis, I think, continued to pour his coffee. He didn't even turn around to see who I am, or at least, reply to me.

"You're Jewel, right?" Artemis finally said. "Yes?" I said. "And thank you, but that was pretty unnecessary. My tuxedo is always made of the finest material." Then he sashayed away.

I scoffed. "Jerk."

I tried to find someone else, and I found myself in the library.

"Amber! Your book seems thick! Is the book good? I mean, I never really read," I started rambling.

Amber looked at me, with a confused look in her eyes. "This is a textbook. About tactics and strategies. It's non fiction."

Ohhhh. This was a textbook.
