"It's not easy having yourself a good time"

"It's just a mindset, it's a bunch of bullshit" I mumbled, mocking my dad's voice as I balanced on top the rail of the bridge. The rain quietly fell, leaving drips on the metal bars, wetting my shoes as I walked.

The rocks on the road crunched as a small car pulled up beside me. The window unraveled, revealing an older lady, "Dear, that's nowhere near safe, are you alright?"

I nodded and threw a fake smile, making her cringe at the sudden creak of the safety bar I stood on.

"I'm going to call the police unless you get down, this is not safe. You could get badly hurt or worse" The lady worried, grabbing her cellphone.

"I'm fine, I'm just waiting for my dad to pick me up, I was at a friend's house. He should be here any minute" I lied with a smile, wishing the person would just leave already.

"You need to get off the railing."

I sighed, sitting down, "It's not a criminal offence. Have a nice night, lady."

The old woman scoffed, doing her window up and driving away, disappearing into the darkness of the night.

The rain picked up, soaking into my clothes. I smiled as a shiver went through my body, it had been a while since the last rain storm. Grabbing the bottle I had taken from the liquor cabinet at home, I stood back up on the rail of the bridge.

It was peaceful, the only sounds I could hear was the rain dripping down with the slow push of the river below. Peace doesn't last forever.

What I had expected as a normal car passing by ended up being the police that the old lady had contacted.

"Shit." I mumbled, tossing the bottle behind me.

"Come on. Let's get you home" The police officer said, opening the back of the car. It wasn't the first time I'd been escorted home by them.

~~~
"Where the fuck were you?! It's two in the fucking morning, how he hell'd you turn the cameras off?! It's unacceptable behaviour!" My dad yelled, storming up to me after the police officer had left.
"So now you care about me?! Didn't seem so earlier" I spoke, taking my shoes off.
"You're a piece of shit brat, you know that?!" He yelled, now towering over me.
"Mhm, sure. And you're the queen of England."
I felt a sharp sting on my cheek as I fell to the floor.
"This is why your mom is fucking dead!"
"Why? Cause you're abusive? You're the one that killed your own dog in anger."
"THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT! GET OUT OF THIS DAMN ROOM!"
My heart was beating faster than ever, my breathing heavy, "You know what, fuck you, I'm joining mom."
My dad turned around, on the brink of killing me himself, "I'd like to see you fucking try!"
A sadistic smile spread across my face as I took a step forward.
"You know what? I think it's time I stop forcing myself to be a decent human being, you deserve to rot in a fucking dumpster; however, I think it'd hurt you more if I left, then you'll never know when I'll come back to finish the job."
My dad's face went pale with adrenaline and fear pulsing through him as I walked into my room. After grabbing a bag of things, I took a knife from the kitchen and walked towards my dad.
"You're too much of a pussy to do it. Nice try. Go take a fuckin nap, crybaby."
I could smell the fear in his breath.
"Have fun then."
I plunged the knife into my dad's stomach, smiling as he screamed in pain. Blood dripped down him, falling to the kitchen floor, soaking his clothes with a deep red. Years of built up anger released as I twisted the knife, his screams were like words of praise, finally validating me in a fucked up way.
Realization blew away the cloudy fog of revenge as I pulled the knife out. My dad fell to the floor, clutching the wound.
"Shit... What have I... What am I... I gotta run. I gotta..."
Wiping off the knife, I left the house, taking any money my dad had, booking it to the car. I was so fucked.
