One night
It only takes one night to change everythingThe silence enclosing the room rose louder. A few sun rays entered through the wide window and shed a bright glow across the marble counter beyond it, the sun beamed and blue sky was dotted with fluffy white clouds that drifted lazily in the gentle breeze.
I was lying in my bed with my legs stretched out I couldn't remember for how long I had been in that position my leg muscles were stiff a shrill noise rang out. i groaned my cell phone was placed beside the candlestick lamp its screen flashing the caller ID and an another groan escaped my lips i answered
Y/n hello mom
mom hey y/n how are you dear my mom replied her voice strained.
Y/n "yeah I'm good" what about youWho's my mom you're wondering, she works as an FBI agent in New York. Her job deals with gathering evidences along with interviewing sources. Recently, she was assigned to collect information against a notorious underworld gang known as 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝓇ℯ𝒹𝓈 After weeks of research in New York when no significant details were found, she decided to investigate the matter deeply and went undercover in a different state with a team of a special task FBI agents where Dakota the leader of the 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝓇ℯ𝒹𝓈 was rumored to be staying these days.
I haven't heard anything from last 15 days so I when I saw her call today, I was a little bit startled.
Mom "im fine hon a little bit tired and busy these days" she sighed and my eyebrows furrowed
y/n of course. Being an FBI agent is hectic""Yeah" she mumbled
Mom Listen y/n, I'm sorry but I can't come to New York. I have to take care of certain things and they're important."
If she says "important" it's always translated
As 'dangerous' and the only possible explanation and be the 𝓉𝒽ℯ 𝓇ℯ𝒹𝓈 her worried voice was a sign that the things weren't in good terms I hope she doesn't drag herself in danger and comes back home soon and alive.
Oh y/n I hope you're not mad. I'm sorry I know i had promised to meet you this week."Y/n why would I be mad it's not the first time you're doing this you made the same promise last week. I had wanted to remind her but decided to keep my mouth shut and swallowed my words back
Y/n its okay" i whisperedI'm so excited to see you again she said with enthusiasm.
Y/n "me too I'm also very excited
Mom y/n I'll talk to you later I'll try to come back to New York as soon as possible. Please take care of yourself and be careful while going out. If you need to tell me anything I'm here you can always call take care'
Y/n "you too. Bye"When the call ended i felt strangely exhausted. I picked up the photo frame mounted on the nightstand. My thumb gliding over the smooth surface as I observed the picture carefully.
A woman with green eyes and chocolate brown hair that reached her waist had her arms with linked with a man who had a small girl in his arms as dark pine trees surrounded them. They were my mom and dad and the small girl who was smiling at the camera was me.
I sighed and slid the frame back to its position.
I curled myself like a ball in my bed and closed my eyes. I made a list of things mentally for the rest of the day but couldn't move myself to do anything i clutched the sheets tightly and grabbed a book. Trying to ease an uncomfortable feeling swirling in my stomach. The sky slowly turned orange and the sun started to sink below the horizon. My eyes were fixed on the novel and evening rolled by. When I finally completed the book, the sky had turned pitch black. After a couple of minutes, I stood up and put the book back on the shelf, cleared my bed and stretched my arms and yawned. My eyes rested on the clock hanging on the wall and read the time
It was past midnight.
My stomach growled and me feet automatically dragged me towards the kitchen. I went downstairs to the kitchen.
Taking out some milk from the fridge, I poured it in the bowl with cereal. While i stirred it, a low ringing sound came from the distance .I halted immediately and looked up from the bowl around the surrounding which was covered in an eerie silence. I glanced around. The shadows didn't flicker,
Instead everyone seemed to be in its place.Shrugging, I moved to the dining table and pulled out the chair for me and settled down placing the bowl on the table. I dipped the spoon in it and munched.
A shattering noise echoed and my hand stopped in mid air. A cold shiver ran down my spine and my shoulders tensed.
It's a cat. Just relax y/n
Professor Campwood is that you? "I gulped as the spoon fell from my trembling hands on the marble floor created some noise and my heart hammered against my chest, beating louder then ever.
Everything's okay,
I thought and a woman voice growled.
"Fuck"
My blood froze and face turned pale. Dread filling my senses. My breathing laboured as I leapt to my feet and crawled upstairs. My legs wobbled, heart thudded and lips quivered in dismay as I nearly tripped but sucked in a sharp breath and moved closer.
As I reached my room, the door stood ajar and the light was spilling out. My eyes stopped on the fragments of glass which were sprawled across the floor. It was the photo frame. The only picture I had with my father.
My eyes prickled with tears as vision blurred. My gaze shifted to the side where a figure stood and l gasped, taking a few steps back.
Her turned a little her red hair looking soft and silky. Her back turned and her sharp jawline visible. More tears ran down my face and I stood petrified. She turned around and brown eyes reached mine as my chest exploded with terror. An excruciating pain shot though my head and black dotted my vision.
My fingers paused and breathing hitched. My insides held still.Damn it. You're dead y/n you're fucking dead
The room swayed in front of me and before my head could bang against the floor she growled
