"HA! Take that! You might as well give up now." You jeer. "Eat my dust!" Zooming ahead you laugh passing the go kart spinning on top of a banana peel.
"No! That's not fair," a voice whines beside you on the couch.
The dark living room of the apartment is lit up by the vibrant world of Mario Kart. Colors flash around the room casting dramatic shadows.
A tattooed hand comes into your view even as your eyes are locked on the tv screen. It reaches absently, pawing for the controller in your hand.
"Hey! Back off bunny boy, you know I'm gonna win fair and square. Only a quarter round left." You're way ahead of him at this point, you're in first, while he's all the way back in 5th.
Small sounds of frustration emanate from the man's mouth as you put him to shame, and within the next minute you're crossing the finish line. You cheer, jumping up excitedly from the couch ignoring the man's groans of disappointment and disbelief.
"Okay okay, act like you've been there before." He rolls his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest, slumping into the couch, chewing idly on his lip ring.
"You're just mad I finally won. Fair and square." Bending over to his level you stick your tongue out at him childishly.
"Fair and square my ass! You had to have cheated, you never win at mario kart!"
"A pro never reveals their secrets." Shifting your weight into one leg, popping your hip out, you buff your nails against your shirt smugly.
"Rematch." He says firmly, popping up from the couch to stand over you. A smirk forms on his lips as he challenges you, his eyes narrow with determination. You know how much he hates to lose, and that is what makes this victory all the more sweet. "Now."
"No." You say plainly, walking calmly into the kitchen flicking on the lights to pick up your game night trash. "I have to work tomorrow. And you need to live with the taste of your own medicine for a while."
"Well you don't have to rub it in." He pouts visibly as he comes to lean against your counter. The dim light of the kitchen carves out the ridges and valleys of his sculpted jaw. His jeans are too tight and his t-shirt is just big enough to really show off how fit he is.
"No, I wasn't rubbing it in. This is rubbing it in." Setting down the cutting board you walk over seriously, before breaking into a goofy jumping dance, tussling the soft messy mop of hair in with your fingers, chanting as you go. " I won! I won! I won! You lost!!"
He strains to resist, but breaks into a toothy smile letting his crystal clear laugh ring out. His eyes squint cutely as his cheeks rise to accommodate the bright smile.
"Alright alright, I get it." He sighs a final laugh, pulling your fingers from his hair with a firm hand. "I suppose it's what I deserve. You just had the home field advantage, we usually play at my place, that's why you won."
"Fine, We can play at your place tomorrow, how about that?" You ask, pulling on a shade of sadistic pity. Turning away you address the pile of dishes from your dinner, letting the water mix with the soap until the sink is full enough to wash the remnants of sauce off.
"Nope, can't tomorrow."
"Why's that?"
"There's that mixer thing tomorrow remember?"
Oh right. That stupid thing.
There have been so many new tenants lately, the building's busy body Park Minha had planned a mixer for everyone to meet and mingle.
"Oh right. Any chance for you to meet new people to try and get in bed. right?" You scoff, throwing a wink over your shoulder.
"No!" He starts defensively. "Well- yea maybe a little. I've been going through a dry spell, that's all."
