Amber Lynn was never the smartest out of the bunch. She wasn't the prettiest or most likeable. Her professors ignored her as long as she didn't act out, her 'friends' tolerated her because of her name and influence, and her siblings had just gotten used to her reckless ways of doing whatever the hell she wanted. Looking back a couple years in time, she had come a long way. No longer the impulsive, rebellious, careless, tough girl facade she put out for the world just to hide every conflicting hurtful memory from her younger years.
What happened to her family was a very eye-opening experience. Although they were all doing so much better than ever before, she learnt to be grateful for the things she has, to not to be too hasty in her judgements, to take things for what they are. Of course, falling in love unintentionally with Terrance and getting heartbroken was a lesson in and of itself. She soon learnt what she was and what she wasn't, and she could tell you for sure what she was not. Amber was not dishonest. She was not a weakling. She was not a quitter.
Proving herself had been a personal battle she waged ever since she could remember, and now two years later, with her fashion-design career picking up considerably, she wasn't going to get distracted or discouraged. It took a lot of hard-work to achieve what she was able to, and it would be a shame to see it all go to waste because she couldn't keep her head in the game.
"Aye, look at you all professionally dolled up." The bright cheerful voice of her best friend sounded from the door of the office. Jessica Morales, a second generation Spanish immigrant was a spitfire rollercoaster ride of emotions that bulldozed through Amber's walls one by one and in no time showed her what actual friendship looked like. Now two years of being best friends and she still finds Jess as fresh and amusing as ever could be. "My bestie is looking every bit the CEO boss woman that she is."
"Why thank you, my lovely lady." Amber mused, getting up to hug her friend whom she hadn't seen in at least a month. Jessica bounced back and forth in excitment as they hugged, making Amber laugh. The gorgeous hispanic, though at least a head shorter than Amber herself, was simply one of the rare beauties in the world. Amber had propositioned that Jessica modelled her designs since the very beginning of her business. Now two years later and Jess was still one of the main faces of her brand as well as a partner, and she would not have it any other way. "Just you wait until we get to our meeting in a bit. They won't know what hit them."
Amber chuckled returning to her chair, checking her designs. The new line was set to drop in two months when they suddenly got a proposition to work in collaboration with a bigger tech corporate. You might wonder, what would a tech corporate want to do with fashion-design? Amber didn't know either until Lennon explained the offer to her in detail over the phone. Apparently they were an IoT tech Company who were starting to branch out into wearables, incorporating small technology in clothing... smart-wear of sorts. Except that they had only worked on casual or sportswear before- never high fashion, and it turns out big high couture names weren't exactly too keen on the idea. She wasn't either, frankly, until Lennon told her to at least give it a shot. It could start something new for her and give her business a boost in the market. She agreed reluctantly and set up a meeting with them to talk about the details.
"Are you okay, chica?" Jess leaned forward putting both elbows on the desk and peering up at Amber who tried to play it off and avert her gaze. "Aside from not being able to sleep from the stress of this impending meeting, I'm perfectly fine."
"Ha, try another day." Jess huffed, narrowing her eyes at Amber. Crap, she was caught. One could never escape Jessica's keen eyes and psychic abilities. The woman basically went around calling out people on their emotions and making it her life's mission to cheer them up. Amber closed the portfolio, and slumped back into the giant office chair giving Jess the stink eye. "How do you do that?"
