A couple of days after the incident, Purohitji agreed to the marriage. Both families came together to finalize dates and the preparations began right away. Today was Saubhagyavati's Mehendi.

Saubhagyavati was sitting in the middle, getting her own Mehendi done as all the ladies sang and danced around her. Ajabde and Ganga did not have any time yet to sit down and enjoy the Mehendi ceremony with Saubhagyavati. First, they had to see the decorations, and then they had to get Saubhagyavati ready even after that, there was always one thing and then another.

Finally, they were able to sit down and have their own Mehendi done. Ajabde sat close to Saubhagyavati and a girl close to their age named Manjri began doing her Mehendi.

"Kiska naam likhu," Manjri teased lightly, obviously expecting Ajabde to say 'Kartikey'

"Kartikey likho Manjri, yeh bhi koi puchhne ki baat hain?" Charumati intervened in a forced sweet tone. Charumati was well a girl well known for her nasty tongue. She went off on just about anyone. Ajabde refrained from saying anything as Manjri printed Kartikey's name in her design.

"Vaise to tum bad itrati thi ki Kartikey aise hain aur vaise hain aur tum kabhi nahi karogi vivah unse. Ab kya hua?" Charumati asked. Another fact you should know about this nasty girl was that she loved Kartikey. The whole village knew that and rumor had it, her parents had even sent a marriage offer to Kartikey's parents but she had been rejected.

"Charu, yeh baatein hoti rahengi. Tum aaj Saubhagyavaati ki mehendi mein shamil hone aiye ho to woh karo," Ajabde said bluntly, almost insultingly. She would feel bad except she did not want to deal with any of Charumati's bullshit right now.

Charumati twisted her mouth at Ajabde and stomped out of there. Ajabde could not be more glad to lose her company. She enjoyed the music and even joined in to dance with everyone. Soon enough, the beat changed and became much faster. Ajabde could not keep up, after all she was tired from the day's work so she sat back down.
