The night air was cold to their skin as Kaname and Zero entered the grand building of the Council. Both of them wore black trench coats – Kaname's was from a designer's brand while Zero's was his usual hunter attire. Their footsteps were as silent as their presence but their eyes spoke volumes. They were more than ready for what was to come.

Kaname was not in the mood for discussion and all the Level C and D vampires who dared bare their fangs and attack the two purebloods were obliterated into thin air using his power.

Zero remained quiet all throughout the whole ordeal. He didn't know if it was indeed right to kill all of those vampires but he knew they really had no choice in the matter. Even if the vampires were spared and by some small chance they wouldn't report anything to their own masters, there's still a huge possibility that they would attack Takuma and the others instead. Kaname and Zero were both purebloods but the vampires dared attack the two of them anyway. They would definitely have no qualms in attacking the nobles. Moreover, they were in the place for war and not for a simple discussion.

Kaname and Zero ascended some flight of stairs before they arrived in front of a set of two huge oak doors. Even just standing outside was already enough for Zero's hunter alarm to blare rather loudly. There were at least 40 to 50 council members inside...

The number was much fewer than they thought. There were supposed to be at least a hundred members, including some purebloods... However, there were only nobles in the meeting hall.

The brunette pureblood didn't even need to do anything. The set of doors opened on their own, welcoming their arrival.

The occupants of the room had turned eerily quiet at the sight of the two of them.

Kaname pretended he didn't notice anything as he took a step forward, face devoid of emotion. Zero followed behind him, looking at all the nobles in wariness. His hunter alarm was already too loud for him to bear but he was enduring it. He could feel his skin crawl and his blood boil at the fact that he could sense killing intent from some of the crowd. Nevertheless, he followed Kaname's example and pretended he couldn't feel anything as he waited for his lover's move.

The brunette looked at each and every one of the nobles with cold eyes, not yet confirming who was an ally and who was a foe. "I see that you've started a Council Meeting." He started as the room turned a few degrees colder. "As far as I know, I am part of the Council too. I wonder why I am not invited."

Nobody talked back or even tried to defend themselves, not that they could. The atmosphere surrounding Kaname was immensely dark even if his voice was calm and quiet.

"Our apologies, Kaname-sama." A voice from the other end of the meeting hall uttered just as a man stood up from his seat and bowed deeply. Zero could immediately recognize those light blonde hair and deep blue eyes. That man must be related to Aido somehow.

Two other nobles stood up from their seats and bowed in deep apology as they also uttered the same thing. They were definitely from the Souen and Kain clans.

Kaname's eyes scrutinized the three nobles before he let them speak freely with a simple nod.

The elder from the Aido clan bowed again before he spoke. "All the nobles from prominent households were summoned here tonight, Kaname-sama."

"The summoning came from grand elder Ichijou-sama himself." The elder from the Souen clan seconded. "He indicated in his letter that the meeting is of utter importance and that it must not be disclosed to anyone... not even to purebloods."

"We knew something was amiss so we contacted one another and came here to see what was wrong." The elder from the Kain clan added as he bowed a little before he spoke again. "If it displeased Kaname-sama in any way, we would like to humbly apologize on behalf of everyone in this room."
