~Sun's Pov~
It was around three o'clock. He watched the children in the Daycare play amongst themselves in their little groups. They all seemed to be getting along. He yawned. This job could be boring at times, especially while Moon was in sleep mode. He looked around, spotting a child sitting alone in a corner reading a book. With nothing better to do, he walked up to the child.
"Hello, friend! What'cha readin'?" he asked, his voice cheerful as usual.
The kid looked up at him. "Uhm... hi... and uhm... this..." The child held up the book so he could read the cover. The title read Night by someone named... Elie Weisel? Interesting name... He thought to himself.
"What's it about?" He asked.
"It uhm... about... the Haulocost... I... probably shouldn't be reading it here..." they replied.
"What's 'The Haulocost'?" he had never heard of it before.
"Uhm- a bad thing that happened in history... a lot of people died," was their answer.
"Oh... uhm- ok then- soooo... what might be your name be?" He asked, changing the subject.
"Abby," they answered. They were probably a she.
"Abby... what a wonderful name!"
"I- uhm- thanks... I-" Abby was cut off by the intercom going off, calling her to the Daycare Pick-Up door. "I-I got to go- bye, Mr. Sun-"
"Okie Doki! Bye, Abby!"
Abby grabbed her things, including her book, and ran off to the door. Now that he thought about it, she seemed like she was getting too old for the Daycare. Maybe around high school age? He looked around the Daycare again, noticing most of the children had left. Glancing at the clock, he noticed that it was around closing time.
--15 Minutes later...--
As the last few kids left, probably siblings, he started to clean up the messes that were made. He was doing it because it was his job, but he also did it because it distracted him from the feeling of loneliness.
"How's it goin', Sunshine?" A familiar voice chimed in his head.
"Hai Moony! And pretty good," He said aloud happily. When people were around, usually they would communicate in their heads, but when no one was around they communicated out loud. Well, at least the one in control would speak out loud. This tended to look like a very one-sided conversation to any on-lookers.
"Were you asleep or something?" Sun asked. He hadn't heard from Moon all day, after all. He was starting to get worried.
"Yeah, I was. Don't worry. It's not like I would ever ignore you on purpose..." Moon trailed off. "Not again..." He added, mumbling.
He was clearly remembering the incident. Or, the chain of incidents that happened, starting with the weird thing that Moon couldn't even say without his voice glitching. Whatever it was, it was the thing that turned his eyes red. And made him more... well... murderous, to put it simply.
"It's ok Moony! It's not your fault," he tried to console his friend.
Moon made a 'tch' noise, "Doesn't make it right..."
Did he actually... regret what that thing made him do..? Sun thought to himself. Now he kinda felt bad. Recently, since what had happened, he had been trying to not let Moon out at all costs. He couldn't risk something like that happening again. The staff would close down the Daycare... or worse... decommission Moon. Sun hated to think of what he would do without Moon. Even when Moon was in sleep mode, he still felt lonely. It was an awful feeling, but at least he knew Moon was there...
"Are... you ok, Sunshine?" Moon asked as if he was reading his mind.
"Hm? Oh yeah, I'm fine!" He answered, still his cheery self.
"Ok. Just checkin'," Moon answered.
~Moon's PoV~
"Ok. Just checkin'," he had said. He wanted to say more... but he couldn't bring himself to. He didn't want to look soft. He typically didn't care about anything... but he did care about Sun. Sun was actually the only thing he cared about. Even he thought it was weird... how much he cared anyway. It had started maybe a week before the... v!®µ$- He still couldn't say it... or even think it- he just found it hard to stop thinking about Sun. When Sun was in sleep mode, it was awful. He didn't like that feeling of... what was it... loneliness? He'd never felt lonely before. He was fine on his own. But now..? He was becoming... a bit overprotective... and even a bit... clingy? He hated to think that he was clingy... but it was probably true. He had threatened to murder a kid once. It was only because Sun was ignoring him.
"So, what now?" Sun asked.
"I dunno, you're the one who's in control," He retorted. He was still kind of salty about being locked away.
"Sorry-" Sun said immediately. He had a guilty tone to his voice, though he really did nothing wrong.
"...For..?" He asked, kind of confused yet he knew the answer.
"...Moony... I know what you're thinking... but it's for your own good! We can't risk you being out 'n' about... you might..." Sun trailed off, the implication in the air.
"So... that's how it is then... can't trust me, huh? Don't worry. That's fine. I don't need anyone to trust me. I cannot be trusted anyway. Don't worry about it," He couldn't keep the frustration out of his voice. "I don't need you anyway," Moon finished without thinking. He didn't mean it, but it was too late now. You can't take back words.
"I-..." Sun started, but he was clearly speechless. He had even teared up slightly. Part of Moon was satisfied about that, though he didn't know why. Maybe it was the fact he actually had hurt Sun like the way he had hurt him.
~Sun's PoV~
"I don't need you anyway," Moon had said. That had really hurt. Was that how he really felt?
"I-..." Was the only thing he could get out.
"...It's awful, isn't it? To be told you're not needed?" Moon continued.
"I never s-said-" He started, but he was cut off.
"'I never s-said-'," Moon mocked him. "Bull-SHIT! You didn't need to say it! Just by keeping me locked away and IGNORING me sends the message! All that tells me that you don't need me! But that's fine. It's not like I care!"
"M-Moony- I-I'm s-sor-" He was interrupted again.
"Don't call me that, and sorry doesn't cut it! I know damn well that you're not! You don't give two fucks!"
"M-Moon... I-... I didn't m-mean to make you feel t-this way... I-I was doing it for your own g-good! I-I didn't want you to hurt anyone else!" He was half surprised he wasn't interrupted. He felt awful. He really didn't mean to make Moon feel unwanted, he just couldn't risk more deaths. They would eventually close down the daycare.
"Yeah sure. Whatever. I'm done. Maybe they should just decommision me. Then I wouldn't be in your way, since the only thing you care about is the Daycare. You'd be fine without me, anyway," Moon finished.
"Moon- t-that's not tru-" He started, but then he felt Moon's presence disappear, signaling that he had either entered sleep mode or he had shut down completely.
That seemed to be that. That conversation was over, even if it was mostly just Moon venting. He went to their room and cuddled up into a bunch of pillows and plushies, sobbing. He wanted Moon to know he did care. Maybe he would be cooled off by tomorrow? Hopefully...
