Steve never really dwelled on his pain. How he saw it was you get hurt, take a moment, then move on with the rest of your day. No need to make it a bigger deal than it was. Usually he would joke about it or shrug it off then continue where he left off.

So naturally it took him time to process the news of Little Foot's passing. The streamer was in the middle of playing Crab Games when his phone started vibrating. Noticing the caller ID, he decided to ignore the phone.

Soon enough, a text notification lit up the screen. Fighting his curiosity, and losing, Steve picked it up and read the message. He paused and stayed quiet. After a couple minutes, the streamer looked at his chat and tried to convince them everything was fine.

But was it? His ex just told him Little Foot died and didn't give any extra information, leaving Steve in the dark.

An accented voice broke his train of thought. Ellum was raging how people were nonstop targeting him. Poor bastard. Okay and we him chase next round.

"Well, I wish I could be more of help, Ellum, however I've got subs to thank," and just like that he muted again.

When Steve finished reading his subs, he pointed out the Brit's gameplay was just backstabbing everyone who trusted him. Little Foot died. It was gnawing at his mind and eventually he gave the excuse of having a bathroom break.

As soon as Steve shut the door, he unlocked his phone and dialled his ex's number. Pick up the damn phone. She didn't pick up so he ended up sending a voicemail.

"Hey, it's Steve, I got your message and I was wondering if you could give a bit more details. Yeah, that would be f**king great. Maybe next time don't be so selfish."

Okay, so maybe it was a tad aggressive but Steve didn't know how to react. He returned to his chair calmly. There was no point getting upset about something that might not even be true.

Three hours later and he hated Craft's gaming skills. He said goodbye to his friends and excited the call.

"And who do we raid now? Tina's streaming, perfect!" Steve raided her then logged off. He contemplated going on a hike to pass the time but just as he was about to get ready, his phone buzzed. Convenient. However he wasn't upset because now he was going to get details.

Accepting the call, Steve demanded a more complex explanation to the words he'd been given.

"His health wasn't the best, you know that Steve," she responded. "I took him to the vet last Tuesday for a check up and they said they'd try to ease his pain. They sent him to sleep this morning. And don't think I'm not finding this hard too."

There was a pause and a sigh. "I'm sorry for not giving further details, I don't think I could've told you over text."

"Why didn't you tell me about it sooner?"

"I don't know your streaming schedule and I didn't want to interrupt any-"

"I could've canceled the stream and drove to the vet instead I lost the chance to say goodbye to my dog. The last time I sat him was over six months ago!"

"I know but Steve-"

He hung up. He needed to breathe fresh air. Filling up a water bottle, Steve recalled memories he'd shared with his beloved dog.

Silently, he went to his favourite hike and when he arrived, he tried to clear his head. By the time he returned to his car, Steve thoughts were only about Little Foot. Lost. That's what he felt, lost. He didn't know whether he was supposed to cry or follow his method of overcoming pain.

Just how long would this moment take to get over? And would it make him feel empty like it does for other people?

He didn't know how to escape his predicament and asked Dumbdog what to do, considering the man had two cats. Maybe that's where he went wrong.

Steve didn't want to take up his friend's time, so he instantly went straight to the point, explaining what happened. Then he asked for advice he may or may not find handy.

"I'm sorry about Little Foot. I think the best thing to do is remember the golden memories, you know? If you feel like you need a break, take a few days off but it mainly depends on how you feel about it."

"Hmm, ok bud I'll think about it..and thank you for not making this into some sort of sad sh*t, I appreciate it."

They exchanged some last words and when the call ended, Steve headed into his bedroom and just laid on the bed, deep in thought.

He looked back on his day and the streamer chuckled to himself. The three hours of Crab Game he played was truly enough to drive someone insane. Tomorrow would be a valo stream he settled. I guess I won't be talking a break then.

Past the ceiling, Steve pictured a clear night and, closing his eyes, relived a short moment. He was taking Little Foot out for a walk but it started pouring halfway and they had to rush under cover. Upon returning home, Steve took a towel and dried his dog, who drifted off to sleep.

Steve sat up and observed his surroundings, guessing the time was around 10pm. The man walked to his kitchen for a quick snack and found some bread. He opened the seal and chewed the carbs while leaning against his tabletop. Steve finally came to a conclusion.

I'm okay.
