Hi everyone! I'd just like to say I apologize for any parts I mess up. Feel free to tell me if I messed up somewhere. Alright, let's meet our hero!
"Y/N? Crap, am I early? Y/N!" A familiar voice shouted from behind a cluster of trees and bushes.
"I'm here." I called out quietly. I was up in a tree, sitting in a branch surrounded by apples. An apple tree. Summer had given the apples a pleasant start. Now, the apples were in their prime phase.
The forest west of the house was always chock full of apple trees. During fall, Alfred and I would take baskets up the trees and bring home apples. The apples seemed almost undisturbed by worms or deer, leaving them plump and abundant.
"Jeez, I can hardly hear you! Where are you?" The leaves and apples were a perfect camouflage for hiding from Alfred.
"You'll have to find me!" I teased.
"Okay, haha!" The loud and slightly obnoxious blonde looked around, behind the bushes, and finally, up the tree I was in.
"Found you!" He said, beginning to scale the tree. On the way, he stopped to pick two bright and delicious looking apples and threw one up to me. I caught it easily. He settled down in the branch beside me. His baby blue eyes were sparkling with happiness. Like always. I looked at him as we simultaneously bit our apples.
He was like usual. Wearing a light green t-shirt with a picture of a Triforce on it, with khaki shorts. He smelled like Old Spice and his glasses gave slight glares in the afternoon sun.
Ah, the Triforce. We would alway pretend that he was Link and I was Zelda when we were kids. After playing all the games on his Wii, we would go out here and play games where he defeated all the bad guys and saved me. He would take a large stick and use it as a sword. Then we would sword fight, just because. That was back when we were about ten. Now I'm fifteen, and he just turned sixteen. We've grown up, but that doesn't stop us from playing Call of Duty together.
I sighed between bites of crisp apple.
"I don't want summer to end." I confessed.
He looked at me. "I don't think anyone does. It sucks going back to school, but aren't you excited?"
I surrendered and gave a smile. "I guess so." He looked at me.
"C'mon, cheer up. Hey, are you wearing makeup?" He said, looking at my face full on.
"A little. I thought I would practice before going to school on Monday."
He looked indignant. "Y/N, you don't need makeup! You look better without it, really." He offered his advice.
"It's just some mascara and eyeshadow." I frowned.
"It's still makeup. I didn't think you owned any." He said.
"I do, I just hardly ever wear it." Usually I stopped at lip gloss. I wouldn't say I was a girly girl, but I wasn't a tomboy, either. I had a good balance of the two.
I wore my usual summer attire. Today and tomorrow were the last days for it, since we were starting school on Monday. Our junior year, in fact.
Alfie and I went to a small school in the countryside. My dad and I worked a farm, and so did Alfie's parents. We were neighbors. In the summer time, I would walk up the road barefoot and watch scary movies all night with Alfred. He was my best friend. He LOVED scary movies, well, kinda. He would watch them and then stay up all night with me, freaked out. We would play video games, and I would walk home at dawn. I didn't want that to end. We can't stay up during school nights.
"What classes do you have?" Alfred asked.
"Oh, um, English, math, psychology, band, biology, and art." I listed off.
"I have all of those together except psychology. I'm not taking that."
"Wow, it's cool that we have so many classes together." I pointed out.
"Yeah."
By the way, if you were wondering, Alfred played the trumpet. It suited his personality, don't you think? A loud instrument for a loud person. I play the (favorite instrument). He was pretty good.
I was pretty sure Alfred was only taking art because I was, but he denied it. When he first heard I was taking Psychology, he laughed.
"Why would you want to learn about what people think? That's weird." He had dismissed it, although I found the human mind fascinating.
We stayed in the tree for a while until it got too buggy to stay outside.
"Bye, Y/N! See you on Monday!" He said, climbing out of the tree.
"Bye." I said. I climbed out after he left, walking home watching the bittersweet sundown that signified the end of summer. What would school be like? I didn't want to find out.
