"DON'T JUST EXIST. LIVE." were the words that her mother had told her over a year ago when she helped Julia Blackwell and her friends escape from the Dread Doctors. Julia had poured over those words since then, trying to catch the double meaning behind it. She was too afraid to go home. Gotham City wasn't the city for rainbows and unicorns. The man she had been staying with, Bruce Wayne, had taught her how to fight and how to control and use her powers.
Juli Blackwell was what Bruce called a demigoddess. Her mother was Nyx, the goddess of darkness and night. She hardly ever mixed with mortals but somehow Nyx found herself in Gotham City under the alias 'Julia'. She met Batman, Bruce Wayne, one night after a group of armed thugs had tried to rob her. And that's how Batman got his first shadow.
Nyx spent 6 months in Gotham City, fighting along side Batman, before a hole in her heart opened up and slowly began drowning her. So Nyx's solution? She created Julia from the shadows and cared for her for 3 years. Julia was the perfect daughter and Bruce liked her as well. Everything was perfect.
Until Nyx was called back to her kingdom. Forced to flee the place she called home for 3 years, she left Julia in the care of Bruce, knowing the man could certainly handle the child. After all, he did just adopt a boy named Dick Grayson whose parents were just killed. Everything was settled until the Dread Doctors came.
The Dread Doctors were a group of evil scientists looking to build super soldiers. Somehow, they found out about Demigods and goddesses and after closely watching Julia until she was claimed, they kidnapped her on her way home from a friends. The next 3 years would be hell for Julia. Undergoing experiments, being strapped to a table 24/7, and being pushed way past her limits. They gave Julia a new set of powers to go along with the powers she was given at birth or when she was claimed.
3 years. 3 years of endless torture for Julia but at least the Dread Doctors had 5 more demigods that Julia became friends with. 3 years, this group of kids had to go through this. That was-until-Nyx, in the form of a shadow, appeared in front of Julia and lead her and her friends out. She rescued them.
After that, Julia found herself floating from city to city. She was too scared to even step foot in Gotham or in the Wayne Manor. Too scared that Bruce wouldn't remember her. Or didn't want her around. She went there once, she shadow travelled herself and her friends there after escaping the Dread Doctors. But there were shadows lurking in the forest. Evil ones that whispered bad things in her ears and pulled her hair when she would run around the woods at 8 years old. It's been like this for a year. Only 5 out of the 6 kids escaped the Dread Doctors alive. Eddie, the son of Zeus had died, stepping in front of a bullet that was aimed at Julia's heart. They all went their separate ways.
