The walls of Devonté middle school was empty and quiet and all Eleanor could hear as she scribbled on her drawing book was the sound of the drizzling rain. The final bell had rung and students had left, their drivers picking them up early but her's had some pressing issues to attend to.
Her driver, Mr. John had called her a few minutes ago and told her not to wander about, of which she obliged. She had sat beside her locker and brought out her little drawing book and began drawing a flower.
Sticking her tongue out of her mouth with her nose scrunched up in concentration as he tried to add a line to her pretty flower, she was disrupted by the voice of a boy.
"What are you doing?
Startled Eleanor screamed and clutched her small fingers to her chest.
Standing before her was a boy about her age or maybe older. He wore a pair of khaki shorts and a star wars T-shirt, his bag was slung over his shoulder.
Ignoring her frightened expression, he stuck his hand out for a handshake with a wide smile on his face.
"I'm Theodore, you can call me Theo"Eleanor blinked repeatedly then huffed in annoyance refusing to take his hands or answer him, she resumed her drawing.
Theodore sat beside her, he leaned closer so he could see what she was doing but she snapped the book close and glared at him.
"What do you want?
Her snappish tone startled Theodore, he rubbed his neck and leaned further away from her glare.
"I just want to be friends"
Eleanor watched him as he squirmed under her scrutiny, when she saw that he was not a threat she sighed
"I'm Eleanor, you can call me Elle"
Theodore leaned closer with a wide smile, he seemed to smile a lot Eleanor noted.
"Are we friends?
"Whatever"
She scribbled away whilst Theodore told her stories of his family and the fun times he had on vacations.
And as his voice resounded in the empty hallway, their fate was already sealed.
